I wouldn't laugh at all, I said that immediately after the Watford game, he'd be ideal for us at the moment.
I thought that after seeing him for the blunts last season, he's a totally different player compared to what i remember. Shame we didn't get him at the start of the season, Watford can't have paid much (if anything) for him.
Does nobody remember the Ryan Williams escapade?? Actually, I think his colouring would clash with the Amber and Black anyhow!! please log in to view this image
I'm not just going on the games against us. After Boro were relegated, their first game in the Championship was a televised game against Sheff U. It finished 0-0 but I remember Yeates having a terrific game on his Sheff U debut. Yeates has been playing in the NPC the last 3 seasons too. His delivery really is superb and I was impressed by how hard he worked too. Far from the kid we had on loan in 2006. Ryan Williams wasn't a bad player either. He just wasn't worth £150,000.
I think the West Ham game will go one of two ways, either us under the kosh for 90 minutes and a 1 or 2 nil defeat, or it will be our best game of the season and we pull off a win. If we were to loose Chester/Hobbs tomorrow it would be squeeky bum time against wet sham no doubt.
I think he'd be ideal, but the Wendies only bought him in January for £800k and he's having a flyer this season, at only 21 I suspect he'll command a fee well over £2m when he does move on.
Madine has real physical presence and scores goals with his head. Something we are missing. I think he's been known to be a bit of a handful for managers, despite being young, but he appears to have calmed. he won't go cheaply though. It'd be a hell of a gamble.
You're right, he's a bit of a handful, however if we are aiming for promotion this year then we might as well forget Yeates as he'll be ineffective in the Premier League. He lacks the pace and skill to make the step up and in the Premier League he wouldn't be given the same licence to "bully the fullback" as you'll find him doing.
I think we have enough (just) for next two games, after that (picking up no injuries) we will have a decent squad. I have no doubt that Shakespheare has got a few potential loans up his sleve should we need another player to cover injuries. Imagine that a young defender or two and sticker have been identified
Don't worry about the Premier League until we're in the Premier League, players who will get us there are the priority this season.
A return to the Premier League is a firm possibility this season. I don't really like the sound of the possibility of spending £1m on a player who will only be useful for 6 months. I'd much rather build for the future by buying younger, more skillful players who have the potential to play at a higher level like Stewart and Brady.
Although I love the run of form and results of late, you know I really really don't want us to get promoted! Yeps sounds like a sado masocistic streak (Is that spelling bollocks? too many whiskies tonight - sorry) Anyway I really like the championship, I like the fact that anyone can beat anyone, its competative. I really don't like the EPL, it's a perverse league that makes no footballing sense (only money). I know I'm not on my own, some mates of mine who have probably only missed a dozen away games in the last 20 years stopped going in the second EPL season. Says it all doesn't it.
I completely disagree, I know it's more cool to say you don't like the PL so I will be in the minority but when we were crap in the PL it wasn't anywhere near as annoying as being crap in this league. People say anyone can beat anyone in the championship which is true to an extent but it's also extremely predictable at the same time. When P'Boro beat Ipswich 7-1 everyone was surprised obviously but they're the side that always score a lot, particularly at home, equally Leeds concede and score in nearly every game and we generally do the opposite. People will point to the Watford game here but half the people on this board predicted it would be difficult, it's just obvious what will happen in this league. EPL on the other hand is a genuine lottery. Arsenal beating Chelsea 5-3 makes bugger all sense to anyone, just a completely random result. Man U beating Arsenal 8-2 and City beating Man U 6-1. That league is insane for entertainment but also for quality. At the moment all 20 teams play attacking football and go for the win, only about half of the teams in this league actually play for 3 points on a regular basis and only 2 or 3 (including us) would dream of setting up to attack in an away game. I can't wait til we're back there. Bit of a rant, apologies for that. EDIT: The standard of refereeing is a million times better in the PL too. They get decisions wrong because they are human, but they do at least make them instead of letting the players make it for them like the robots we have to put up with.
I said before he went to Wednesday he would be ideal. Madine a year ago is the type of player we are looking for now, young up and coming players, not Butterfield and the likes who have already made a name at that level, before they make their name.
Agree with this. Plenty of teams have built teams for a level higher than they are and found it difficult to get out of that division in the first place. You worry about the PL if you get there. I think if we spent a million quid on a Yeates or McAnuff, bought some cover in defence and signed Waghorn or another striker, it'd cost about £3m all in and give us a really good shot at hitting the jackpot.
