'pivot' and 'in transition' are the new buzz terms for pundits to try to sound as if they know something we do not, also good terms to throw in when unsure what to say ...'they were good in transition and used the pivot well' is a much trotted out phrase now that basically means feck all and can suit any given moment.
The pivot usually just refers to a deep lying/defensive midfielder and the transition is just the response to losing or gaining possession.
I watched last night and thought at the end “How on earth have England won this game” They were outplayed mostly for 80 minutes, the Spanish manager made two subs which completely changed the game in England’s favour. Fair play to England for keeping going and over the last 40 minutes probably deserved their rewards. As a rival to the men’s game well that’s never going to happen. Wish them well in the semi’s
Female commentators seem to want to sound insightful. Cricket is the same. The amount of times you get one saying 48 words to explain how a ball went down the leg side is stupid! Just commentate. Don’t try to sound clever. Just taLk about the game like the men do
It seems unnecessary to use terms like that in commentary when, surely, the whole point is to provide an engaging description of what's happening. These terms are just a linguistic shorthand.
I've given you a like for that but I wish I hadn't cos I've essentially just outed myself as having watched Friends
Never watched it and never will, just doesn't get the blood pumping. As someone at work said the other day..."I'd rather wash me father in the bath"

They can’t have watched much of the Euros. I liken these dinosaurs to kids who protest that they don’t like some vegetable or other, even though they have never tried it. Have the spinach – it’ll do you good! The quality of the football is such that a tipping point has now been passed – the point at which the women’s game can afford to not care less what the grumpy old men might be banging on about. They’re a dying breed. They should get their children and grandchildren to explain how the world now works before it’s too late for them. A video of England’s Lauren Hemp on the rampage should do the trick. Her feet, as pundits might put it, will do the talking. please log in to view this image I’m a fan of the women’s game, pure and simple, but the idea of trying out mixed matches also intrigues me. Make up two teams, each consisting of six women and five blokes, and see what comes to pass. How the teams set up would be fascinating. I’m thinking that a 3-1-5-1 formation would soon become standard. The three at the back would be men. They would gather in the D on the edge of the penalty area, stroke their chins, stretch their groins and decide on tactics. If their need to be the alpha male didn’t overwhelm them and reduce the discussion to a brawl, the gameplan would be given to the “1” in the formation ahead of them – another bloke. His job would be to patiently mansplain the tactics to the five women in front of him. Their job, of course, would then be to put it into action by doing all the work. Equally obviously, it would be incumbent upon them to give the ball to the bloke upfront so he could score the goals and get all the glory. Hopefully, more enlightened arrangements would eventually evolve. Or perhaps I’ll abandon the idea as a bad one. After all, the women are managing just fine on their own. Trying to make himself relevant again using womens football? f**kin shame on him. If I were easily offended I'd be offended by some of the stuff he's said about blokes. Calling people dinosaurs because they simply don't want to watch? Knacker.
Well I am a fan of womens footy, and think it is a good watch. That sort of commentary though is crap, and does more harm than good. The target audience isnt the ones he is talking about so he should just leave well enough alone. Womens football is going from strength to strength, and is on an upward curve, his whole argument is taking entirely the wrong direction for both womens and mens games
. Watched 1st half of Germany Austria. Austrian lass takes a boot to the face (dangerous hight foot by the German), went down but was quickly up again and got on with it. My first thought was if that was that was in the men's game, there would have been a whole lot more rolling around and pretending to be in agony. Entertaining half of football I thought. For those complaining about the commentary, it's not as bad as French Commentators! Compared to that, women's commentary on the BBC isn't too bad
Yeah I think the way the game is played is more in the right spirit. If the money was the same in the women's game it'd probably be a different story but for now it's refreshing to see an honest game of football. Whether the quality is there or not every time I watch it both teams seem to be trying to play a decent standard of football, it's all about intricate passing and individual skill. Never seen a game where one team is going for a 0-0.
Women's football is fùcking shìt and pity poor licence payers getting it rammed down their throats. Oooeer mrs. The world is going to hell and back in a shìt cart and I'm glad I'm not young and starting out facing this fùck up of a snowflakes society. God help us if we have to go to war nowadays. These crying bitch ***gots who call out neanderthal etc whilst plucking their eyebrows and rubbing moisturizer cream on will be the first cùnts I shoot in the face
