Good Morning. It's Thursday 21st July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Harrison's departure would signal a much wider break up of the band

There's an interesting piece about Jack Harrison in 'The Athletic' this morning, where Phil Hay questions his apparent shock having been asked about his future at Elland Road. This would not have been the first time this Summer he would have been quizzed, and he's been around the block enough times to have been able to shrug off such speculation, and change the topic back to matters in hand. His rabbit in the headlight's act fooled nobody!

Discounting penalties, the 25yo contributed more goals last season, more than anyone else in the Leeds Utd squad (10), and played a third of the campaign carrying an injury. Leeds have recently splashed out £21m on Colombian international Luis Sinisterra, an inverted winger who predominantly operates on the left wing. This leaves Marsch with the option to play either Harrison or James in a similar role on the left. Overnight, odds of Harrison joining the Magpies have yet again been slashed.

According to Hay:- "It was one of those quick, ambiguous remarks that invite equally swift interpretation. “We’ll see, we’ll see what happens,” Jack Harrison said, and for anyone expecting him to knock transfer speculation out of the park, his equivocation posed more questions than it answered. Harrison, it should be said, looked and sounded as if a discussion about his future was the last thing he anticipated and it was hard to tell if he was blindsided by it or actually expressing what was in his head."

"Newcastle United are genuinely taken with Harrison, without being laser-focused on signing him. Eddie Howe, Newcastle’s head coach, wants a forward who can play out wide and Harrison is his sort of athlete: tenacious, direct, built to run all day and all night. That goal output last season appeals too. One of the reasons Marsch’s predecessor Bielsa used Harrison so much was that he soaked up instructions and, in the Argentinian’s eyes, rarely put a foot wrong when it came to attempting to implement them."

"Harrison leaving would signal a much wider break up of the band; almost like saying that everyone in the home dressing room at Leeds has a price and clubs are welcome to rock up and pay it."

Why 25m won't do for Harrison.

Odds of Jack Harrison joining Newcastle have again been slashed overnight. Skybet are now offering just 1/4 on the former Citeh lad to move to Tyneside this Summer. Leeds bought Harrison to Elland Road as a kid with potential. Four years on, at the age of 25, he is fully recognised as being a decent top flight prospect. We must take into account his transfer and loan fee about to circa £21m, and the Blue side of Manchester will want 20% of any fee!

Leeds haven't had very many opportunities to make decent profit margins on their outgoing players, so on the odd occasion, when an opportunity presents itself (like Harrison), surely they need to take Newcastle to the cleaners. Do Leeds need to man up, and play hard ball with their Saudi counterparts? A profit margin of, 4 or 5m is negligible in today's game when you consider the amount of players who haven't made it at Elland Road!

Prior to this Summer, there have only been eight transfer sales of any note!

    2019: Jack Clarke £10m
    2019: Kemar Roofe £5.4m
    2019: Pontus Jansson 5.5m
    2018: Ronaldo Viera £6.3m
    2017: Chris Wood £14.8m
    2016: Lewis Cook £6.3m
    2016: Sam Byram £4.5m
    2014: Ross McCormack £10.6m

    Duo set to depart

Lewis Bate and Ian Poveda are set to leave Elland Road shortly. Leeds are prepared to listen to loan offers for the former Chelsea youth player, whilst Poveda's future is a little more up in the air. The 22yo has not set the World alight at Elland Road, and after breaking his ankle last November, whilst on loan at Blackburn, Leeds are prepared to sell him if an offer is forthcoming.

A host of league one clubs are keen to take Bate on a season long loan.

    Morning all

IF we sell Harrison then we need to replace and then the question must be asked WHO? The season starts in 2 weeks and we're struggling to sign a FW. Would we be able to bring a Harrison replacement by the end of the window. I've got this horrible feeling we'll be left short of players if he goes as it looks like Poveda is off to the MLS whilst Costa and Kiko have been told they're free to leave. Add on to that Bate might be going to Oxford and Davis is going to Ipswich

Morning all 35 million for Harrison i would take in an instant. Jumpin jack flash he is not. I have read he got ine assist last season?. If true that is very poor and some of his goals were just lucky. The one that helped us stay up a lucky deflection. We have Aaronson. Sinisteri. James. Still got wee jimmy who may push for the exit. Left back is priority as davis is not even championship standard. Firpo is one of those buys like the bread maker/sandwich toaster/george foreman grill. It seemed a good idea at the time. Striker needed too as we have sick note Bamford and the fabulous Moreno. Gelherdt may get a few starts but he has much to learn.

    Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

Harrison is worth over £25m and cant see us selling unless we get nearer £35m. Yes we have loads of left wingers as Sinisttera, James and Harrison are lefties and prefer to play there, so we will see how Marsch sets up but cannot see Harrison being sold unless for silly money.

On the significant transfers out Delph should be in their as £8m was the number and the number we needed to find to buy back Thorp Arch…. Oh but Bates didnt did he..

Morning all. Fed up with this transfer window. We'll shortly have replaced all our quality players with a bunch of hopefuls. Suppose that's what you get with two owners unwilling to invest their own cash

    Morning guys.

Nothing much to add in this period of inactivity. Just that the early summer excitement of strengthening our squad has now given way to a concern that we are only two weeks away from starting the season with no recognised LB and no striker to replace Bamford who doesn't look anywhere near fit yet.

    Nothing seems imminent either.

Looking forward to the Palace match tomorrow morning and think we should be expecting a decent performance. Palace are somewhat depleted and surely are there for the taking ?

Anyone buying tickets today for the final pre season game at home to Cagliari ?

Err it kicks off tonight at 11:05pm our time Jammy

Edit : Apologies Jammy, its looks like I am incorrect, although I do blame the Yorkshire Post for misleading me by saying the game kicks off late this evening ;)

It feels like we've been after every striker in the world right now and nothing has materialised. The board need to get their fingers out of their asses. I'm sat here now wondering who's going to start at LB against Wolves especially if Davis goes to Ipswich. In the summer I thought we needed about 9 to 11 new playersfor the 1st team and we're only got half of that.

I'm guessing it won't be a sell out mate. I might get some ordered at the weekend. I want to take my 10 year old to his first game. :emoticon-0148-yes:

I think they are still waiting for the De Ketelaere fella. He wants to go to Milan. He's agreed personal terms but they haven't had a bid accepted. Maldini himself went to Brugge but didn't get a deal.

We've had a bid accepted by Brugge but haven't agreed personal terms cos he prefers Milan. If Milan pull out, we will sign him. Doesn't sit comfortably with me but it is what it is.

God knows why they don't go to Burnley who are skint and get Cornet or Taylor for the left back position. They'd have it done by early next week.

Bought mine last night. My section, L31, was all singles. Bought 3 more for L33, I think it was. It was perhaps 50% empty. Remember, you can buy 4 each! I'm pretty sure that they'll sell out fairly quick. Lots of people want to see us & won't get much of an opportunity to get tix during the season, so it's nailed on imo.

Then again, that' only my assessment. What do I know? :D

The problem is CDK is a non-starter. He's gonna sit there until he joins AC. Terrier I think is too pricey they've seen the Raph transfer and are trying to bleed us or they're expecting Liverpool to hand over the cash.

Regarding the LB position, I think Orta's chasing an Algerian or Morrocan lad in the Dutch league for a couple of windows. Then there's the Tysom link at Stoke

Not according to the Yorkshire Post, although I do agree that 11:05 am seems a more appropriate time given the time difference between here and Australia

There is if you put "pm" after it.

Or do you look forward to the Saturday afternoon 15:00 hours kick off , as opposed to the more traditional 3 pm kick off ;)
