That's not Acun putting a limit on numbers. Just confirming to Burnsy in passing that he's working on another after Tetteh.
Some back peddling going on, after being told of all these great players we've brought in, fishing in much bigger ponds than in the past, and a whole load of other exciting stuff now it seems as though we're not much better than before and still need half of a new team to improve. Of course they need to get up to speed, bed in, get up to fitness, shake off any injuries and understand the manager's plans etc.
I'd say more realisation than back peddling. Regardless of their calibre it will take time to bed in to a new team and system. Just look at Man City 10 years ago when they started pumping money into the squad. (Different scale I know, but same principle)
It reminds me very much of the early Pearson days, the pre season Jan Molby was manager. Might take a change of manager, two or three seasons and a few changes of playing staff before anything major happens.
One result in a kickabout friendly with a Premier League team full of internationals and our optimism for the forthcoming season goes straight out of the window.
Well I never thought a promotion push was realistic anyway!. More than happy with and fully expecting comfortable mid table
To quote your post on the 10th July.... Never ceases to amaze me how people draw conclusions for the season from pre season friendlies but it happens every year (unless we play well in one then its "only a friendly"). #215 Wessie Exile, Jul 10, 2022
I’m still seeing a lack of creativity in the side, this was the biggest problem last year and it doesn’t seem to have been fixed.
Well there are links to a number 10, and Fleming and Coyle as wing backs just doesn't work. I barely remember Fleming making any runs down the left... Greaves was more adventurous than he was! Sinik is a winger so maybe we'll see something more creative when he's playing and a change in formation. That said, in the second half we were playing the likes of Vardy, Barnes, Soumare, Evans etc. With a team that hasn't been together long and isn't being put together to instantly compete with top 10 Premier league sides
I don't disagree on the lack of creativity but we were playing against a top 6 Leicester side. 2nd half they were very good and extremely clinical. Apart from Seri's mistake I thought we more than held our own 1st half. They were sharp, incisive and very good. I think it showed that the spine of our side haven't had a full pre season. We're slowly getting there
agree & that is down to the manager. We need a proven Championship manager who has successfully got a team promoted to the PL. Arvaladze is not the right man for the job & its Acun’s biggest issue that he can’t / won’t see this
It was a ****ing friendly ffs with players who have hardly played together before plus we played against one of the best teams in the country - it was a run out - no one wants to get injured and no one wants to make mistakes so it ends up as a practice match to get fit, work together on a few tactics and get to know each other - taking it too seriously and suggesting the season is as good as over is ridiculous
How is that solely down to the manager? We most certainly do not need a championship proven manager, shouldn't Fulham have hired Marco Silva then? Cooper was barely proven when Forest hired him and neither was Scott Parker
I'd much rather we play sides like Leicester and Fenerbahce who gives us the run around instead of lower league sides. A mixture of both is great but playing Leicester is a great way to get us up to speed. Any small mistake last night they punished, their passing was quick incisive, the tempo was high. They're a miles better side than anyone we'll face in the league this season.
Are people really saying Fleming isn't a wing back after last night? After hyping him as one of our best players based on his performances in that exact position over the last 6 months?
Leicester City are a good, solid Premier League team who've made no signings this summer ( https://theathletic.com/3431533/2022/07/19/leicester-transfers-rodgers-premier-league/ ) , so they've had no one to "bed in", nobody to have to suss out how best to play them. It simply was "normal service has resumed" for them. Whereas had 4 players featuring last night who've literally only known each other for around two weeks. Leicester also made 10 substitutions at half time, City made 2 around te 70min mark, 2 at 80 mins and 1 at 85 mins? Last night was not a results orientated game- it was purely a game time match. Getting them up to speed, learning how certain players want the ball feeding to them. Also, credit where it's due, Tufan looked so much more fitter than the Fenerbache game. Hull City (3-4-1-2): Ingram; Figueiredo (A Smith 80’), McLoughlin, Greaves; Coyle (C) (Williams 85’), Seri (Elder 80’), Slater, Fleming; Tufan (Docherty 70’); Allahyar, Estupiñán (T Smith 70’). Subs Not Used: Robson, Covil. Leicester City (5-3-2) (First Half): Iversen; Castagne, Amartey, Vestergaard, Söyüncü, Thomas; Mendy, Tielemans (C), Praet; Pérez, Daka. Leicester City (4-3-3) (Second Half): Iversen; Pereira, Fofana, Evans (C), Justin; Soumaré, Dewsbury-Hall, Maddison; Albrighton, Vardy, Barnes. Subs Not Used: Stolarczyk, Iheanacho, Braybrooke, Wright.
In one of the seasons we got promoted to the Premier League, didn't we get bummed 4-0 by Crewe in pre-season?
