He can't turn water into wine though and it looks like he's going fhr possession base football. I find that worrying because I just don't think most this lot can do it. I would think they'll bring in 2 or 3, but they need to be good or this idea newcastle can compete for top 6 is insane.
I'm interested to see what happens with Lewis, I thought he improved well when Howe first arrived and actually quite liked the look of him at times. With a more solid defence, learning from the likes of Targett and Trippier and not always being hung out to dry by St Max being allowed to do what he likes I think he could still be decent for us. Realistically though I think Targett may just be a better player who gives us more freedom up the pitch. I'd try and find a spot for Lewis, I think Howe will not and I can't argue with the guy
Fraser is a wasteman... Max is still involved in almost every goal we score, but he can't play possession based football. Ultimately the entire set of fwds need replacing but it simply cannot be done easily or fast.. Max Wilson are the only 2 that ate anywhere close to top half prem quality though.
I expect much the same but it'll be more consistent. Not one utterly crap half of the season and one miraculous half.
Agreed but Richie is versatile and Howe has history. Dummett ticks a box of homegrown at the club alongside the Longstaffs, Woodman also did the same but is gone now. Until the likes of Anderson come through fully we'll still have Dummett and the others around.
From what I saw of Anderson the last two games he's Newcastle's best player outside gamereas by a mile. He can play there's no doubt whatsoever in my mind he's going to be a top player.
Well IIRC we need 4 spots in the squad for players who are homegrown at club (though that could only be for European games, I'm not sure) or we end up only being able to register fewer players. I'm guessing currently that's Dummett, Longstaffs and Anderson (as Woodman has gone). Anyhoo, my point is just that I can see Dummett and Longstaffs hanging around longer than people think they should due to a lack of homegrown alternatives.
There is a difference so far. Even though it's pre season and they're playing in blazing heat I've not seen a single player blowing out their arse after 10 minutes which was evident in droves first half dozen games last year. That first game of the season against West Ham last year was embarrassing simply because the players were gassed after 10 minutes.
Agreed and it negates the need to spend anything on CM. Joe, Bruno, Anderson. Other three as stand-ins where needed, that's fine enough. RCB is worrying as well. Burn's looked like the journeyman recently, understudy for Botman is fine but we desperately need Schar to level up. Trippier looks like age is catching up with him. But up the field it's a ****ing disaster. Wood is absolutely woeful and needs selling ASAP while he's still worth a bean. Doesn't look like a footballer let alone one in a progressive style of play. Wilson, just feel like he's going downhill. He's doing a lot of media stuff too. Fraser/ASM need to battle it out on LW, and I think that could be acceptable, but Almiron or Murphy on the right is horrendous, particularly the latter. I've never seen a more predictably poor player than Murphy, he's always going to cut infield and take away attack momentum even though he's right footed and should be doing byline-cross-byline-cross.
There's really nothing we can read into today that we didn't already know We all know which players are not good enough based on a decade in some cases. The club surely know they need some quality.
Meh - City's best player was Stephen Ireland for a while after the money came in! And quality of their signings increased year on year and it'll be the same with us, a step by step process, but they're be noticeable differences each year.
I’m worried. The three stands in midfielders. I get the impression you’re including Shelvey is a ****. Eddie, we need a ****ing midfielder. Now!
