Left back wasn’t a significant weakness for them was it? And the Hull guys seems a very different player to Eriksen. Granted they will struggle to find someone close to him
Hickey is going to play RB for Brentford, apparently. He's both-footed and the RB spot is a glaring weakness in their team. They've signed Thomas Strakosha too. Interested to see how he gets on over here.
Problem is they absolutely battered us last season and Eriksen didn’t even play the 90. Like it or not, they’re better than us. Leeds and the promoted sides are the only ones that I think we can finish above, and all of those guys are spending more than us. It could all change if we bring in some forwards but currently I think we will probably be in the bottom 3. I’m not saying that to be a bedwetter, I’ve been a happy clapper for a while. It just my realistic assessment currently.
I distinctly remember two games. And they will be playing against more teams than just us. Their numbers pre and post Eriksen are telling. They were heading straight back down before getting him in. You can’t just go on one game and make a call like that
This is an odd take, Os. We battered them too. And "spending more than us" is no guarantee of success.
It really isn't. We can replace 6 goals a season. They can't replace what Eriksen brought to them without getting very, very lucky.
No it isn't. Eriksen is class. Nigh on impossible for a club like Brentford to replace. Broja, as good as he was in parts, is much more replaceable.
It’s also an intriguing move to spend such a large fee on someone and not play them in their favoured position. It right wing back was their weakest area then they could have tried to actually get one. I guess the versatility is useful and he is young enough that it could end up working out really well But I am sure loads of saints fans would be going mad if we spent a very high fee on a player to play them outside of their favoured position
I hope so. I think Brentford’s squad is better than ours even without Eriksen though. On paper I think only KWP, Stu A and JWP make their team. Maybe Perraud. Am I being too negative there?
Had they not signed Eriksen, they might not have even had the opportunity for second season syndrome. They were dropping line a stone last season until they beat Burnley in mid-March (which Eriksen was MOTM in). Swap that result around and Burnley would have been right behind them. Eriksen saved them almost by himself.
