Not often a player starts four up, doesn’t drop a shot and makes 2 birdies, and still loses by two shots. An absolute legend of a final round by Cam Smith.

Brilliant by Cameron Smith.... anyone who shoots 64 in a final round deserves it.... 5 birdies from the turn, some going and well done young man....

Yep. Can't accuse Rory of bottling it this time.
    Smith was simply sensational.

some are doubting Rory saying he was too cautious. Rory's play from tee to green was superb,
but was beaten by sheer brilliance. Well played Cameron Smith

Interesting comments from both - Rory felt he let it slip through cold putting, albeit to a sensational round, Cameron admitted that playing catch up was a huge advantage, forcing him to take risks. Had he been in the lead he said he would have played the back nine much more cautiously.

I don’t think Rory should beat himself up over this one. 18 under after 4 rounds is amazing. 20 under is simply exceptional.

Worth mentioning Cameron Young who must be the only player in Open history to shoot 65 and lose by one to a 64...

Caught up on the highlights today from the last day, which I couldn't watch as I was travelling. First golf tournament I've watched a good chunk of, having picked up golf at the start of lockdown 1. Still trying to break 100 personally (very almost there) so in awe of all of the professionals. Incredible putting from Cam Smith. Not to be for Rory, but he's been very strong for the last few months - more to come this year I hope.

Remember the duel in the sun when Nicklaus shot 65 and 66 last 2 rounds and lost by a shot to Watson who shot 65 and 65 if my memory hasn't gone. Insane

Yep. Incredible putt to force Watson to hole his to win it. Its what made Nicklaus the greatest ever in my eyes, the fact he won 18 majors is astounding, the fact he came runner up a further 19 times is astonishing !

I agree - Nicklaus is the GOAT in my eyes. His record is incomparable. Tiger’s record was great, but Jack’s was better. <cheers>
