Good Morning. It's Monday 18th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds slip to narrow defeat Leeds slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa, during what turn out to be a feisty affair, full of incident, yesterday morning in Brisbane. Falling victim to the 'man in black' is an everyday occurrence for the Whites in the Premier League, but nobody expected the stigmata to follow them halfway around the World. The first bone of contention occurred halfway through the first half when Tyler Adams was adjudged to have handled the ball in his own penalty area. Although replays vindicated the USA International of any wrong doing, the referee pointed to the spot, only for Meslier to deny Coutinho from 12 yards. Meslier was only able to palm the ball back into play, and into the path of the advancing Brazilian to stab the ball home from close range, but the Leeds shot stopper had other idea's. Using every inch of his 6ft 4' frame, he was able to scramble the ball clear from danger. Two minutes later, Meslier made an equally good save to tip Ollie Watkins effort over the crossbar onto the netting, as Villa's counter-attack almost made Leeds pay. Jesse Marsch's team had their fair share of chances too. Bamford, James, and Harrison all had opportunities to open the deadlock before the interval. Leeds should have gone ahead on 58 minutes following Aaronsen's corner. Villa failed to clear their lines, and James was presented with a close range opportunity, only for Olsen to make a point-blank save. Less than five minutes later, Villa took the lead after the ball struck Leif Davis on the arm. The decision seemed a little harsh as he was protecting his face, and had no time to react. This time Danny Ings stepped up, and made no mistake from the spot. Ten minutes later, Leeds starlet Archie Gray had to be stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle after a reckless challenge from John McGinn which resulted in a booking for the Scotland International midfielder. Both sides continued to cancel each other out during the closing stages, as Leeds succumb to their first defeat of the pre-season. please log in to view this image Leeds suffer Kalimuendo blow Leeds have been dealt a hammer blow after Arnaud Kalimuendo revealed that he wants to stay and fight for his place at PSG. The news comes from CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs who claims the 20yo is doing 'all he can' to be noticed by new Manager Christophe Gaultier. Having spent the last two seasons on loan at RC Lens, Kalimuendo feels that he is ready to make an impact. The arrival of Hugo Ekitike has not deterred the French U21 player at all. According to Jacobs “Leeds remain very interested in Arnaud Kalimuendo but a deal is not a given even with Hugo Ekitike’s arrival in Paris. Told Kalimuendo has impressed Galtier. He’s in the squad for the Japan pre-season tour and doing all he can to stay in Paris.” please log in to view this image Do Leeds need to man up? Anyone of a certain age will remember the intimidating atmosphere of Elland Road during the 70's and 80's era, and the crushing impact it had on the opposition, both on the pitch, and on the terraces. Whilst the Leeds Utd fan base remains as strong and devoted as ever, the daunting ambience has long since passed. The same could be said of our modern day players. Whilst the likes of Hunter, Bremner and Charlton would have spent more time suspended than playing, there's an argument that the current crop of Leeds stars could benefit from hardening up, but at the same time, cutting out unnecessary bookings. Speaking exclusively with the Breakfast Debate, former Leeds and England forward Brian Deane believes that Leeds were bullied last season, and need to find a balance between free flowing football and the hard man image they gained all those years ago. "Elland Road was traditionally a real cauldron. Teams came to ER playing against a really physical team with great mobility and good balance. A lot of players would have gone to Elland Road last season, thinking it could be an opportunity to have a good day out. They’re not going to be losing any sleep. They’re not going to be thinking about the game on Thursday night, they could start to think about the game on Friday night because they know exactly what was going to happen." "We’re not based on the South Coast, we’re not based in the Midlands; we’re a Northern, hardworking tough City. The yellow cards last season are not what I would all yellow cards. You can get booked or sent off through stupidity. If you look back through the cards, many were avoidable. That’s something they need to cut out. They weren’t challenges that tell the opposition that Leeds are a physical side. If you’re taking one for the team, that’s one thing, but if you’re arguing with the ref or pulling someone’s shirt, it’s down to ill-discipline and it’s going to cost you." "Leeds definitely need to be more physical. They’re not going to win anything (trophies) if they can’t match other teams physically! You have to make it hard for the opposition." Perkins set for ER Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that England under-18 forward Sonny Perkins has signed a contract and completed his medical at Leeds. Although this is yet to be confirmed by the official channels, it is believed that the former West Ham youth player rejected both Spurs (the team he supports) and Aston Villa. Leeds will have to pay a compensation fee to West Ham due to his age, despite him being a free agent. please log in to view this image
Aaaah those where the days, up and at em' you get nowt' for coming second said Billy and let's face it we had our fair share of that......get in to em' .......oh and we definitely need that striker
Morning all. Disappointed in Archies injury and the manner of it. Disappointed in McGinnis part in it and also surprised our players didn't kick up a fuss after it. Oh to have Norman back in the side, McGann wouldn't have played much further part in the game. The Davies penalty was blatant and stupid and what was that nonsense holding his face afterwards. We don't need anymore stupid play acting, football is already soft enough. Were still struggling to get a striker over the line. You can't blame the PSG lad I suppose. Not an attractive choice moving from them to a club that just avoided relegation last season. That's likely what he sees when he assesses the move, a step back in his career
Sonny Perkins is an odd purchase. 18yo and in theory should be part of our U21 squad and competing for a start with Mateo Joseph and Max Dean. However this kid sees himself as a first team player, so we will have to wait for the official announcement to see what role the club see him playing. He started out as a midfielder and moved into attack scoring goals for England U18s and WHU U23s last season and won the golden boot, he was on the first team bench plenty of times last season?
Good Morning to Matt Doc WJ RistacShaks etc from a very hot BardseyIt was so hot that our fire alarm went of twice! I thought we were after Ivan Toneyhe wouldhe would put some steel in Always like d the lad how true is it Doc and while we are at Brentford why not ask about Rico Henry as well
Doing some comparisons to Joffy and in fairness Perkins doesn't come close. Joffy for England kids is much better and at U23 level Joffy played half the games and scored the same number. Joffy is 2 years senior to Perkins and cant see him displacing Joffy. nothing wrong with having kids like Gybri being part of the squad but it could mean the likes of Greenwood or even Lewis Bate want to leave
yeh think he went from u21 attacking midfielder to first team bench striker in just a couple of months. Who knows where they see him.
He played as am/10 Doc. They only used him as striker for a couple of months, which is when the goals came. Don’t think you can really compare stats with joffy.
Archie gray was injured due to leeds being greedy. We used to play friendlies and not a cup competition halfway round the world. How much is the club share of gate receipts?. You can bet it easily pays for the trip and a nice profit. Seems pointless getting bad injuries when we should be concentrating on fitness and ball work. For example teaching dan james how to shoot. Will palace kick lumps out of us as well?. They have a lot of squad players trying for a team place.
Half of Joffys games for the U23s were at 10 Milky he and Greenwood swapped and rotated so they could both learn just think its a strange one until we learn more. The norm is the kids go to the U23s now U21s. We heard that Gybri is going to the 21s but will train with the first team. Nothing said about Perkins yet?
I know that bud, but Perkins is an unusual one in that he’s a career am (if an 18 year old has had a career) who literally in the last season was tried as a striker. His history isn’t like for like with joffy. Whichever I do take your point. He left West Ham because he wanted ‘grown up’ wages so we’ve clearly given him a senior salary. Where that fits in with the first team squad? Fck knows.
Probably best to wait and see what fee we have to pay before deciding if this is a significant coup or not. No doubt we'll make a lowball offfer which will be refused and therefore it's likely to go to a tribunal. £5M for Gyabi might now be the benchmark.
Never mind the new signings there is a bigger problem. How is shako going to operate a new phone to get his match ticket. His old valve one is not capable of this new technology.
Still need a left back and a striker. Until we get those two positions sorted I fear another long season. The good news is that we are creating chances.
More snowflakeism. Heading a ball never did any of the posters on here any………..,,,, Oh Heading ban for under-12s in England to be trialled by Football Association https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62208661
