think i might get pelters for this but i was distinctly unimpressed with the vid someone posted of all his goals last season though thought he looked made for us when we played them in CL .
Any idea how many subs are allowed in community shield? I presume 5 but don't know. If so then we could see a second string side who didn't play a part v city.
Even if all his goals were brilliant there would still be an element of different league, different levels. I think Klopp looks at the raw material and knows what he can turn it into.
He embarrassed Robertson, konate and trent multiple times. He's also just turned 23 and has 1.5 european seasons under his belt so we will I'm sure give him all the support he needs
23/5 That's what mane did last year. 5 goals in cl. 16 in league and the rest in domestic cups. 5 assists. As a no 9 would that be a great first year for nunez? I think so.
That would be a solid first season. The aim is probably 20+ League goals per season at some point, though I think Klopp and the staff will be more concerned with overall contribution than just goals scored.
Like I say, I would think that 20+ in the league would probably be the target, at least at some point. But they'll probably (also) focus on the whole system rather than only individual stats. There's no point playing a system that gets Nunez 35 goals in the league if it means Salah, Diaz and Jota only get 5 between them, for example. If the team as a whole is scoring plenty and he's contributing significantly to that, then that will probably be their main objective. Though his contract probably has certain Bonus targets in it based on goals scored.
Ohh i agree that the rest have to be played in a way as to get the best out of them (and 20 would be a decent haul in first season) I am interested (as no doubt are you and many others) to see what changes are made to the actual system to incorporate a No9. Maybe not a massive change but could cause some to get in each others way/space for a time.
We may not see the change for a while. Players like Robertson, Fabinho and Konate spent months on the bench before playing regularly. Not saying Nunez won't play, because I think he will, but of there are changes to the system Klopp will likely be patient to make sure it's to his satisfaction in training before doing it in the game. Which may also mean that Nunez may not be as effective at first if he can't adjust to our current system (and if he can adjust, why change the system). Besides which, Jota was already more of a 9 than Firmino ever was, so there should have been some practice there.
I agree with you on Jota and Firmino, Firmino has always been a combination of "second striker" and play maker long before you got him which is why he fit so well with Mane and Salah (i think Mane benefited most). When i speak of Klopp changing his system to incorporate a No9 i will happily admit i am only going off things i have read and nothing more. Maybe he will change Nunez.
Is this 20+ in league or total. Cos I just want to point this out. Harry kane 17. It's not that easy score 20 league goals and esp not in your debut season. The top sides usually have someone up there like kane, aguero, salah, then the second tier like vardy so well. We will have hopefully about 60 games. 38 league 13 cl 6 fa cup? 6 league cup? 1 community twobob ****e. If he gets near manes 23 goals that'll be good imo.
I think it’s way too simply to just say he needs to score x amount. if he scores 10-15 league goals but diaz does the same and Salah gets 20 with firmino and Jota chipping in with 15 between them. He’s also unlikely to play 38 league games with Jota and firmino on standby. He could only score 10 goals but lay on another 10 for Salah/diaz. overall it’s a team game. Yes wojkd be lovely if he scored 25 league goals and we won the league. But if he only scored 10 but helps us win 30 games and we win the league then who cares? Rather that than him do a Ronaldo or Kane and score 20+ plus and team do nothing.
Yes you are right that's why I originally put manes 23/5. Mane actually made few assists so it could be more bobby and torres and make more overall contribution
I don't think he needs 20 league goals, especially in his debut season; as I and @InBiscanWeTrust have said, it's more about the overall picture. But Kane normally gets 20+ league goals (last season, especially the first half, was poor for him), as does Salah, and Mane also managed it, so you would think 20+ league goals at some point will be a personal aim of his unless his role changes.
Even kanes not consistently hit 20+ ever year in the league. of the past 4 seasons he's done that once actually. (and 4/4 for the prior 4 seasons just to be fair) He can have all the personal aims he likes, salah admitted he wanted 40 goals last season FFS. I could give a crap really as you say, we just want to win games. I think a nice 15 goal league season would be great. Mane did that last season and was called vital. I agree that how the overall unit performs is most important. And i think diaz will have a break out season btw. I'm ore for watching him take the league apart than worrying about the next new bloke who's going to shock a lot of people who keeps saying just a 9, target man.
