You haven’t cleared anything up, because there was nothing to clear up.
You still haven’t got the player even though both clubs have agreed the fee. You claim it’s because the money owed is stopping it from happening, I offered an alternative view.
I’ll let you have another fact mate, you know about as much as me on the real reason, which is next to nothing, so your blinkered posturing is just that…blinkered posturing!

Its really ****ty of that club to want to leave him yet asking him at the same time to forego that £17m. On most similar situations the player gets ****ing paid to leave never mind penalised.

I don’t know much about him as a player. Was he a regular starter for Barca?

If he didn't want to play for United, and had actually made that statement, ever, we would no longer be pursuing the transfer. Because they've said as much.

That's all you need to know.

You're not offering anything of an alternative view, it's been said plenty of times, usually by various tabloid gossip columns.

Do you genuinely think you just thought that up ffs?

But you know he doesn't want to play for United. Left field view and that.

I’m not really sure why you are getting so defensive, it’s discussion forum about football and until you rocked up, it was a civil discussion. In just about every comment coming out, the only constant across all forms of media, is it appears he doesn’t want to leave. That is backed up by the fact that both Utd and Barca have agreed a fee, but the player hasn’t agreed to personal terms etc. No matter how you try and dress it up as something different, it also doesn’t indicate he wants to join Utd either, unless you know more than some of the more reliable sources or perhaps have a direct quote from him? It’s a transfer that is being played out in public because of the clubs involved.

Whether you think that’s all I need to know is both irrelevant and also showing your arrogance.

At the time I mentioned it on here, nobody else had mentioned it as a possibility on this forum, although I’m pretty sure I didn’t think of it first <laugh>. The question was to provoke conversation around a challenging transfer for Utd, nothing more and I’m pretty sure that’s the purpose of the forum.

Your trying to argue something I didn’t say. I said maybe he doesn’t fancy Utd, that’s a whole world of difference. Asking a question on a football forum is allowed mate, just because it’s not something you believe doesn’t mean that questions can’t be asked.
Not quite sure why you’ve morphed into Matth.

The second de Jong publicly states that he wants to leave Barca he would severely weaken his negotiation position regarding his deferred wages. Barca would start whittling away at the amount they owe him, all the while knowing he was desperate to leave. By saying the opposite he is forcing Barca to come to a more suitable arrangement for him - most likely settlement over a period of three years or something like that. He has them over a barrel - they need him to go in order to comply with FFP and to free-up wages to pay for new signings and to pay their wages.
EtH has publicly stated that he wants the player and that he is prepared to wait until the end of the window - after our domestic season has started - to get the player - our position cannot be clearer and I very much doubt that the club and the manager would risk their reputation were they not absolutely certain that the player wanted to come to us.

You said "reports coming out from his side" and "comments from his camp".

    Both quotes.

So, if you could link me to those report and those comments, be much appreciated. If they exist, I'd be happy to take them on board.

Otherwise, and until those are actual quotes, there is nothing of any substance saying he does not want to join United.

He won't say he wants to leave Barca, because that compromises his owed wages.

    Obviously.

We all know this, you're saying nothing new.

    <ok>

You know it might be an idea United take a leaf out of Dortmund's book and put a very public deadline on this transfer.

At the same time start pursuing alternatives. I appreciate Ten Hag considers De Jong central to his plans, but there might just be other players out there capable of doing the same.

I couldn’t agree more. You always need contingencies and to put all your eggs in one basket is not wise.

It must be galling for the player to see his club bringing in expensive new players at high cost and at the same time pushing him out and asking him to forget about a debt he generously accepted to help that club. And on top of all that beg him to request a transfer and come out as the bad guy in front of their fans.

That's Barca for you - they spend fortunes on players, rely on merch sales to cover the cost and then they give you 12 months to stake a claim - look at Depay - he was the next big thing and ten minutes later he is a bargain basement sale. I think history will show that Xavi is their worst manager ever - he simply doesn't have the stature or the balls to stand up to the president the way that previous managers could - he's just a pawn

This has been my position the whole time. I no longer care to understand Barca’s chaotic world. We should not get into deep negotiations under these crappy circumstances. It’s a ridiculous soap opera which I don’t think justifies the end.

Move the f on to alternatives and leave Barca and De Jong to their sht!

I'm not saying we need to ditch the deal.

Put a very public deadline on it, example 10th August and stick to it. It's what Dortmund did with Sancho. That'll tell Barca to either put up or shut up.

In the meantime look for other players who TH thinks can play that role as well.

I recall we were in for Ronaldhino and ended up buying a certain CR7 instead. Just a thought.

This is why fixation on one player at all cost can lead to missed opportunities.

Let’s also not forget that it can take time for players new to the league to get going, with Bruno being an exception.

I think Eriksen for me is perhaps going to be the most impactful signing for us this summer regardless of who else comes in. That’s because of his experience and human story that will serve to inspire the whole team. That is the type of spirit we need more than another protracted summer soap opera. Every time that we have gone through this type of scenario, it becomes harder for the player to settle.

End of this week seems reasonable.

If it's not done by then just leave it and look at an alternative.

The alternative won't be as good though.
