From that Honeyman interview it didn't necessarily seem like he wanted us to match Milwall's offer, but just to make him feel wanted by giving him a reasonable contract offer, which we didn't. As he said, that's fine, he left as a result and we move on, but it was clearly about the way we went about negotiating a deal with him that put him off.
That's fine and his prerogative. I think the honest truth was that the plan wasn't for him to be first choice though and as such giving him £15k a week isn't reasonable in my mind anyway
It should be, he's only played 6 months of football in god know's how long. About £6k is fair and it's still more than most of last year's squad will be on
I do wonder if there's going to be a few cliques at the club as a result as there's going to be some massive disparities in wages.
I don't think it'll matter because by the end of the summer window next year I don't think there will be much of the squad left from the Grant/Allam era. I'd imagine only the 2 keepers, Greaves, Fleming, Slater, Longman and Alfie.
What was the offer? Do tell. And clearly we honestly said 'you're not first choice' and agreed to let him go.
I agree, it's the same group I called out above. I'm not saying that Slater should be on the same as Seri, but that if we're going to have 'tiers' of wages, they'll need to eventually be a bit closer together than having some on 5k a week and others on 30k. Feels a bit of a chasm.
What offer? I'm not professing to know what he was offered by us, I'm talking about the result. We offered him something that he felt didn't respect his place in the side, so he left. That's all. Moving on?
I think if Slater carries on, he'll have a new contract on the table within 6 months and I think the gap will naturally close a bit. As a base of him and Seri, it's a really nice combo, it's just a shame they're both vertically challenged.
Ok? I didn't say either of those things. Others suggested Fleming is on 6k so I used 5k as a rounded figure.
It's just business. He wanted to play a key role in a championship side. Milwall offered him that. We didn't.
Is height that important? They've got 3 massive CBs behind them. Chelsea play the same system and often have Kante and Kovacic as a pair
Yes and no. It depends who we play. It's nice to have a bit of height in there. I still think it'll be Seri, Tufan and a new attacking midfielder when everyone's up to speed. If we bring in a DM as well Slater could be pushed out of the picture. If Nwakaeme is this mystery player and we don't bring in an AM, it makes the midfield a little simpler.
Look mate. Name your dog something else if it makes you feel better. He's gone. We can only now hold to account the decision makers if the transfer policy fails. On paper we're bringing in higher rated players on more money than we were prepared to offer George. Time will only tell if it was right or wrong, or most likely just indifferent.
?? I have no idea what this is responding to. For a third time, we had moved on and were discussing current players and the wage structure. I wasn't talking about Honeyman.
