Judging by the response today, £30m may not even be enough for Chelsea. If it’s pushing close to £40m+ then I defy anyone to say he’s shown enough to justify that.
In my mind, £30-40m is too much for “potential”. You have to have a really proven track record for that. He’s shown flashes but this is still potential we’re talking about. I understand it’s inflated because his appearances so far are exclusively in the Premier League but there has to be better value out there. There must be and most seasons, there is. I just don’t see a potential world beater because he was more athletic than…
34-year-old Craig Dawson.
Also note that the club that got Haller for £40m (who
had actually scored for fun everywhere he’d ever been) and couldn’t work out what to do with him may not be the best judge. They’ve got a comical history of signings in that position.
I don’t want people to think I’m anti-Broja or that I think he’s ****. He’s fine. I just don’t think it’s an interesting deal at that price unless you’re completely desperate, out of ideas and have a massive amount of money to piss away. Maybe that actually does describe West Ham and their need for a forward so that Antonio can have his Iron Man moment, ride off into the sunset and finally be at rest.
