https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-62123886 Mo Farah has revealed that his real name is Hussein Abdi Kahin; Mohamed Farah was the name given to him by the human traffickers that brought him to the UK in order to force him into domestic servitude. A teacher rescued him from that situation and was able to place him in foster care with another family, and helped him to gain citizenship. Just a remarkably strong human being, and I'm glad that he feels like he's in a place to tell his story.
Wow. He is an example to us all, that goes without saying, but the countless ones who don’t get rescued should never be forgotten.
Look at the comments following these articles, hateful, but not surprised to see and I'm sure they don't represent the majority. Update, the home office say no action will be taken. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ue-story-illegal-arrival-Britain-Somalia.html and https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1638913/mo-farah-revelation-olympic-hero-trafficked-to-britain
The Open has started, with pretty good conditions, and what looks like a gentle breeze. I love watching links golf, as the golfers have to think and plan their way around the course, in a way that they don’t have to do on the majority of championship courses. The courses have “PROPER” bunkers as well, which are always a source of fun, seeing the very best golfers sometimes needing multiple shots to get out of the sand. And the greens have so many undulations that when you see a golfer sink a 40 yard putt, as Ian Poulter just did, it just adds to the magic.
Current clubhouse leader, on -4, is Barclay Brown an English amateur golfer Paul Lawrie, Open winner in 1999, carded a 74 (+2) including driving to 5ft from the par4 18th hole for an Eagle finish.
This is a good story, I had never heard of the guy before this. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/62121946 "Despite still never having played a full round of 18 holes, Flitcroft applied to enter qualifying for the 1976 Open, which was to be played at Royal Birkdale, not far from his home."
New Zealand 22-32 Ireland: Sensational visitors claim remarkable 2-1 series win - BBC Sport This is an absolutely astonishing result. Well done Ireland. The question is can they keep the momentum going all the way to the *** end of November 2023. I would love Ireland to win the World Cup!!!
England have a good team in them, If only they could break out of the shackles that sometmes inhibits their performances as we saw against Ireland in the 6 Nations.
They scare me when they are pushed back to their own posts, as they don’t seem to be as resilient as they once were and it just seems (to me) that we will concede a try sooner rather than later. Farrell’s kicking was a bit below par today, missing a few points and also putting two early kicks straight into touch, losing the distance he was aiming to get us upfield.
Final round of the open really starting to heat up. Mcilroy -18 through 12 holes, level with Cam Smith (Aussie) who has played 13. Smith has birdied the first four holes on the back 9 and is -6 for the round. Young and Hovland at -16.
Cam Smith shoots -8 on the final day of a major. Ends on -20. Thoroughly deserves the win, despite his mullet hairstyle and awful moustache combo. Mcilroy needs to chip in for an eagle to force a play off, which I very much doubt he will do. The difference has been with the putter. Smith was rolling in all the bum twitching putts from 12-15 feet, whilst Rory wasn’t. As the saying goes, “Drive for show, putt for dough”.
Womens 1500m final Gold Kenya |World Athletics Championship Oregon 2022 | Faith Kipyegon - YouTube A 1500m race at its best where an athlete absolutely blitzes the entire field. I think Laura Muir should feel proud of her run, 3m 55secs, and 6 seconds ahead of the 4th placed athlete. As for Faith, she is a league of her own.

The beauty of the Men's 1500m final was that 10 of the 12 runners ran a SB or PB, including Wightman himself. Even more pleasing that the medal winners ran inside 3.30 and all but one ran under 3.35. So well done to all the participants for such a high level of performance. Thankd to the Kenyans and Ingebrigsten in the past few years for making it such a brilliant event again, and to Wightman and Kerr, and the Spanish runners. Garcia and Kafir for stepping up when required.
