Radio 4 this morning. Tory right join forces to keep the right in power. Tory candidates pledge to cut budgets and cut taxes to get elected. Hospitals and ambulances in crisis and can’t see vulnerable people. The needs of humanity and the ideology of Conservatives don’t add up.
Question Time, last night, was quite upsetting tbh. The head of the Education services, or whatever she was but a nice lady, was spelling out what a crisis schools are in. Then someone in nursing was talking about the NHS crisis. These are the two cornerstones of our society and they're underfunded and demoralised. Unless we're educating our children how will we ever catch up with the Chinese. Classes just get bigger and teachers are leaving the profession. It's probably better driving a van for Amazon dropping off Chinese made shyte to people sitting at home on benefits. No point trying to go to work anyway ... .... fuel is too expensive, the trains are on strike and Covid rates are on the increase again. Never mind though, Sunak to the rescue.
I am a governor of my g'kids school and i can tell you schools are hugely underfunded.... You do not need to be an expert to see that care for the elderly, the number of hospitals and staffing is way below what is required. Still the prospective new tory PMs compete to say how much they are going to cut spending and decrease taxes. Or have a go at fragrant Penny for being soft on trans!
As far as I have been able to understand it, so far, ONLY the former Chancellor has been honest. He seems to have said that Tax Cuts are off the table, at this time, as The Country can not afford them. What we are not seeing from the rest is what they are intending to cut to pay for these Tax Cuts they are promising. It would be nice were we to live in some Utopian Land where ALL Politicians, of ALL Parties were required to explain where the money was going to come from to fund any bright new idea. Last year one of our MP's was campaigning for the scrapping of Business Rates. A laudable enough idea. BUT, in everything in Miss Philoipsons quotes that I read, there was no mention of how that income was to be replaced. Unless the answer is to continue borrowing and let our Children, Grandchildren, Greatgrandchildren, etc, sort out the mess. This has nothing to do with Left, Right or Centre, it's just a plea for some honesty from ALL politicians. PLEASE NOTE the highlighted bit.
Tugendhat would be my choice too, but I don't suspect my thinking is in line with Conservative members. From what I've seen so far, Penny Mordaunt looks very Prime Ministerial and is impressive. Truss seems to be the continuity choice which is the absolute thing to avoid. Badenoch is way too far out on the right for me and I just don't trust Sunak though he'd probably be popular with the public in the Blair/Cameron mould.
Tugendhat won that by a street. Badenoch ok. Sunak bland as ever. Bit of a disaster for Morduant and Truss. Guess who'll be gone on Monday?
I thought Sunak won it comfortably to be honest in the sense that he looked and sounded like a Prime Minister. He's essentially asking us to vote for austerity though and a few little cracks in his façade showed on a couple of ocassions though, when speaking over other contestants and particularly when Tugendhat nailed him with the "because the boss wants it" reveal. Tugendhat got better as it went on and he's still my preference. Badenoch was good I thought, though I disagree with her. Mordaunt was really disappointing but even she was spared by the disaster that was Truss. I think Sunak is the runaway favourite at this point. Tugendhat will be gone on Monday. they won't like that he's more interested in serving the country than the party.
I'd rather shag Sunak than go near Liz Truss to be honest. Avoid. Shag Kemi and hopefully repress it. Marry Penny, because she's the only remotely tolerable one.
I've said it before but I would hate a general election right now for one simple reason for the first time in my life I wouldn't have a clue who to vote for, I would actually be scared to pick anyone. I really don't think I could trust anyone of them to get us through the mess we are now in
One problem is some of them sitting there clapping probably can’t wait to jump on the band wagon as Mp’s and get their snouts in the trough.he’s right though.
As it stands (due to the current system), and if that is your aim the Tory option is the one to favour, and the upper House is your Eldorado. Worrying.
What’s worrying me though, if what the lad said is true why does nothing happen when the Tories aren’t in power, the Labour government could do what we want if they got in, but do they, no, nothing changes, so are all mp’s in on it?
