The hilarious meltdown after the realisation that they cheered the loss of Labour's greatest asset, and any of the replacements will muller any Labour leader, is starting to hit home.

Of course, the rifts within Labour are not to be mentioned.

"What do we want?" "Not that". <diva>

Having been a remainer, will probably defeat Truss in the vote.

You've made me think, that you might actually have a point here. I've not made any sense of why Boris was forced to go, the media did an absolute hatchet job on him but for what... They couldn't get rid of him over the covid deaths, they couldn't get rid of him over partygate, absolute numerous things they could of got rid of him for, but in the end it took someone who cannot keep his hands to himself.

So what happened and what's the point you have hit on, afterall I'm often told the media favour the right and Tories, so what happened here is I've realised the media along with Rishi, decided to stick the knife in him, finally, handyman gave them the most recent excuse, because as you said, Boris was Labours greatest asset. That's how bad Labour are under Starmer. The front benches of Labour for all their hot air, have probably shot themselves in the foot with their endless moaning instead of getting on with the actual politics.

Boris initially got the job because the rest were afraid to take over at that time, and he was egotistical and opportunist enough to give it a go. He was left in post as more awkward decisions had to made during covid.

Now much of that has cleared, and in theory there are some measures that could look like quick wins available, Boris has outlived his usefulness as a scapegoat, his antics are taking up Parliamentary and other time that would be better spent tackling the issues that affect the Country and the others see an opportunity to look like they're achievers.

Throughout all of this, Labour have missed open goal after open goal, as they focused on 'opposing' and hurling mud rather than being a credible opposition. Pretty much the only time they took firm decisions, they were either what with hindsight would have been the wrong ones, or that they were firmly in agreement with the Government on. Had they been able to generate a meaningful 'other way' or clear position it would have probably been well received, but they repeatedly failed to do that. It means that along with their own internal fighting, they look weak, devoid of ideas and hypocritical.

Boris is liable to get most of the blame, and a lot of it deservedly so, but politics in this Country is in a terrible place, and people carrying on the pantomime in discussion groups doesn't really help.

The shame is, no matter which side of the debate someone takes, Brexit actually raised the interest levels on politics, and observers could clearly see that people were expressing a view that Westminster was detached from them. Sadly, that lesson really doesn't seem to have been learned to any great extent.

I favour less government on most issues, and certainly less allegiance to a party, and more to the people they're supposed to be representing.

Oh, and I'd certainly want to see a trimming back of the power held by certain civil service posts, where they see politicians as useful idiots to take the blame, or throw to the wolves, when in theory they're supposed to offer impartial expert advice and support.

EDIT: and then there's the media's role in all of this...
