Rocket science, isn’t it?! You could literally predict the full saga. We have boxed ourselves into a position whereby we have no choice but to sign the player and likely paying higher fee. Nah, we are surely not desperate!

Watching reply of the friendly match today, our midfield need a solid reinforcement to replace Pogba. Fred is not going to cut it in starting lineup as evident by some of what I saw in that match. Too many mistakes in the center of the park which puts the defenders under pressure. De Gea was again doing his superman show which means that we still have a lot of work to do.

The finishing are definitely positive points going forward and I like Martial up front. Rashford was often rash with his decisions, I thought. But still early days.

Overall, we need a solid player in the middle of the park to control the play from the deep. So yes, just fkin pay the £82m already! As though we were ever going to pay less than originally reported.

"Changing [Manchester United] coach every year is hard - this was a difficult aspect for me," said Pogba. "Then there were a few injuries, but I think it was also a mental thing - playing and not playing makes you lose pace.

"There is a bit of everything: coach, team, position. All this has blocked me a bit.

"Now, however, I have left and you will see another Paul. I can do better than in recent years."

I can’t remember when we were discussing Pogba and that he would likely go to somewhere in Italy because he must know that he lacks pace for the Premier League.

We should have sold this guy years ago. He had major insecurities about performing at the highest level which only set us back as a team.

Its like reeling the big fish in <laugh> First pretend that the player is available at a reasonable fee, then when the buyer gets excited and keen, keep them dangling and say btw we really want to keep him. Then as the buyer is 100% committed start asking for more money.

just like a cheap dating scam where the poor desperate lonely loser gets reeled in by the scammer pretending to be this lovely blonde and keeps the victim on his hook asking more and more money for this and that. Held at the airport, needs money to release the inheritance etc etc. Utd: please don’t be massive mugs and fall for such cheap tricks. Just walk away.

Looks like we are close to signing Martinez - I like the look of him, a tough presence not just an excellent ball player, he seems to have a touch of the Gabriel Heinze about him which is something we need.

    Why?

He's an alternative who we pursued once Timber had been put off joining by our bitter ex manager.

I thought that would be a good thing, no? Pursue the alternative instead. Just want to make sure you're happy with everything.

DeJong’s agent has now declared that the player doesn’t want to leave Barcelona this summer. Yet he is not happy to take a pay cut at Barcelona or anywhere else.

This whole saga is getting tiresome.

We shouldn’t be in the middle of this useless fkin mess! I just can’t understand why?! Why would you even want a player that is adamant that he wants to stay where he is?

Actually depends how you read it.

What is said is he's no intention of leaving, and thus foresaking his deferred wages. Not neccessarily the same as he doesn't want to leave. He doesn't want to give up 17million euros, or whatever the figure is. Which is completely fair enough, why should he?

Pretty sure he'd love to leave Barca, who have attempted to shaft him publicly.
Also agree, we shouldn't pay it. So, if this is the sticking point, we should tell Barca to shove it and move on. Hopefully their own transfers collapse as a result, **** em.

Neves the alternative apparently. Although also Tielemans is deemed on option.

Would need both to sufficiently 'replace' de Jong.

Why can’t they pay him his dues from the transfer fee that they will collect? This is like asking the buyer of a second hand car to pay off the original car loan on top of list price.

The whole thing stinks and we should have called it off long ago.

It’s not Utd’s responsibility to sort out their problems. They have been playing games with us, luring us into their trap. One minute they’ve agreed a price, the next they won’t sell their precious player, the next they will but want us to pick up their debt. WTF. Honestly, they are the new poor who have fallen on hard times yet they behave as if they are still billionaires. **** them.

They have just agreed to buy Raphinha from Leeds so they have either found some money or are going to be desperate to get some.

In saying he 'doesn't want' to leave, he's essentially just reiterating he's not asking for a transfer.

Barca are just trying to push him into doing so, so they don't pay any owed wages.

    Because they are ****s.

None of this is even that hard to read between the lines ffs.

Yep. Agree on this at least. Even if the player had asked to leave which he hadn’t as Barcelona and Utd came to an agreement even before contacting the player. A debt is a ****ing debt and Barcelona shouldn’t renege on it.

Utd should just give them (club and player) a timeframe to accept the deal. After that **** it and move on to other players.

I don’t know how this is any of our business. If they agreed a fee, then the deal should be done. If they can’t pay the debt owed to the player, surely the player can pursue legal channel, no?

If we want a player who appears to have complicated image rights, outstanding debt, etc, then surely that is not a deal worth pursuing.

I iterate, we should not be sitting here working out the permutations around Barca’s shtty debt to underline when we can get a player.
