I would this say that if the option is to buy one good player than 2/3 average ones I would go for the one good player. And if I was asked which position for that one good player I would go for the CM one because it will have the bigger impact on games. Just my opinion mind. So I would go for Paqueta over Diaby and Isak if it was a choice of one of them.
There is a lot of noise this morning however on us signing a forward and Isaks name has been branded about a lot more than usual. 40m is the fee that is being muted.
When I'm saying fans/people im talking about the fans that do and that includes twitter. I keep hearing they don't want this guy or that guy on here and everywhere, but obviously not from everyone. All they wanted was a club that tries! Remember?
I wouldn't because it's a long season and it's about depth at this stage imo because injuries and suspension will happen... This season the world Cup will make the situation even worse You could have a top 11 but get nowhere over the course of a season.. Depth will stabilise this club in the top half and then when the sponsorship situation is addressed they can add the bells and whistles.
Quality over quantity for me. We don’t want more bang average crap players. Having said that we have proved (bad Wood) that we can be quite astute in the market and that we won’t be taken for fools. Isak for 40m makes perfect sense. Paqueta for 50m makes sense but I’d expensive.
I posted months ago telling people they're ignoring all the best evidence in favour of whst they 'think' and I'm just wondering if they're beginning to realise themselves.
Firstly that's 90 million and the fees are lower than the amounts reported. Newcastle have spent 55 million ish of an approximate 100 million budget and are struggling to sell players. You were told by the owner, the manager and every journalist in the planet so far. Slow build.. You build the foundations 1st
Mad to think since the takeover we’ve only signed one player across the front 3 and that’s Wood. So glad the defence has been improved though.
25 Million for a striker proven in the premier league is buttons these days, but it looks like they will spend again in that area
I think forwards are super hard to get. These guys want quality, we're hamstrung by having Saudi ownership and it's a sellers market. Nunez was poor in his first outing for L'pool and cost £85m. The best want UCL football as well, so I don't envy the task. I agree with the sentiment that CM is the most important part of the pitch, but we have 2 really top players there already in Big Joe and Bruno - Willock has a lot more to offer, Longstaff could recapture early form, Shelvey may have a throwback season, then there's young Elliot Anderson. RW then we have currently Almiron first, then Fraser, then Murphy, in order of reliability and ability. Howe will be well aware how they're looking, performing, training. The Diaby links suggest to me we'd love a top player in there, which then allows Almiron/Fraser to give strength in depth right and left. CF is clearly the priority. Wilson will not play more than half the games. We then have no youth and Wood. Yes, we need to control from midfield, but against Arsenal we demonstrated we can already do that. ASM needs to be more clinical and intelligent, but has all the ability. RW is a problem, not enough is created, but if we are going into games with just Wood and no sub, that's not great. Both are 31. CF priority for me. I'd take that right now, get them in and working then keep ear to the ground on selling clubs buckling or loan-to-buy coming up before Sep 1st.
If they can't get the right player I'd say just don't bother. They'll have to wait until the right player at the right price wants to come. Not easy
We have to be very mindful of this approach and that it's the right one. This is ownership that wants the best. I think we'll end up with a decent young striker - Gouiri, Isak, Broja, David, etc. - and I have a feeling they'll do some sponsor/share deal to also bring in Diaby.
I’d even be happy bringing in a player like Cornet. Just don’t trust Almiron/Fraser/Murphy are upto scratch during the whole season.
Is Isak happening then? We're still favourites to sign Paqueta, but we have been for the last 3 months and feck all has happened.
