Having not watched all of the game and just going off what I did see, would it be fair to say we played at 50% - 60% intensity while utd played flat out? We looked to be playing one of our usual pre-season friendlies in terms of personnel and intensity while they had their strongest team out ? and looking like it was a 'real' game. Just my observations ......

OK, pre-season friendly but…there is no way you want to see a Liverpool team thrashed by Utd ( BBC description). Some of these players are not good enough, this does not set a good tone and is an embarrassment.

‘Team one’ dominated early on and should have scored a few. Defensive howlers cost them.

    ‘Team two’ - meh

‘Team three’ had a hatful of chances but also gave away a poor goal.

Utd already look more organised in the press - we looked exactly as we always do at this stage on the season. No big deal.

it’s a pre-season friendly. Nothing more. The result really doesn’t matter - the first game of the season proper - that result really matters so if this was a stepping stone to get the entire squad up to a certain level, so be it. No drama.

Don't read too much into it. It was a weird game to have as a preseason friendly. Ten Hag has said himself that it's no indication of anything because Liverpool played three different teams while he didn't.

I’m surprised the clubs didn’t get together to almost agree which parts of game would play strongest team and which would play weakest.

Feel like both clubs would have got more out of it playing first team players against each other. however I guess worked out well for United in the end and maybe didn’t want to do that it didn’t get too fiery as a contest?

Ffs, had been out all afternoon, got home about an hour or so ago and noticed I had a missed Whatsapp from my exes brother-in-law. Haven't seen him for five years. United supporter. You probably guessed that. Are United the new Bitters?

Apparently when they went 3-0 up, the bookies were inundated with bets for utd to win the league <laugh><laugh>

That smacks of desperation and hurt at having being royally thumped in the real games.

The reality here is they pumped in their best players for too long too early.and it could haunt them later in preseason with a few creaks and groans

they looked more organised to be fair but we still created a ton of chances while giving up easy goals - I love that Klopp wants to applaud the lads who got us into the CL last season but Philips and Williams should be nowhere near a first team again after their respective 30 minutes.

The year we won the league, we lost three and drew one of our preseason games. Klopp knows what preseason is for.

Have I ever bored you all with the story of how Neil Armstrong deliberately crashed the lunar module simulator to prove a point? I can get really Buzz Killington over the Apollo programme if anybody wants? :emoticon-0138-think Point is, that pre-seasons, like simulators, are for learning. That's all. :emoticon-0143-smirk

I tried to convince my son to name one of his pond fish Neil Armstrong because he got it on the moon landing anniversary. There's no significance to this story whatsoever except that since he got that fish we've won every major trophy available.

Neil knows. As does Mike Collins. Buzz is almost dead too, so we can pray to him as well. :bandit:
