tbh its their demeanour and arrogance that makes them ****s imo
the arrests and sentencing is often nothing to do with them

But watch how they play all nicey with smackheads etc, but give it large with people who genuinely made a mistake and are remorseful

in essence that was what my question was alluding to. the people you talk about could/should be in the hero category
todays soldier not so sure, even though those already in had no choice

For me those who were in the military and were ordered to go into Iraq for example had little option. those joining up and going after....?

never thought of it that way tbh

but you are right, i think in this country a couple of things give us a false picture
1- no war on this land for a long time to see what soldiers can get up to - rape and torture stories exist on lands that see war first hand
2- no major uprisings internally from a civilian perspective - there are reasons the armies are feared in a lot of countries

Although I know i'm wasting my time but here goes for the umpteenth time of asking. Why mention "dying for your country" on a thread about the Army? You say there is no connection, but there it is for all to see on the OP. The fact that you refuse to acknowledge it proves my point.

I'll help you out on this occasion because you have obviously dug a hole for yourself and even a step ladder would not get you out.
People who join the Army do not do so because they don't mind "dying for their country", they do so for many reasons, none of which you would comprehend.

As for you "holding soldiers in high regard generally" that's a pretty blatant lie - based upon what you have written previously on this forum.

I suppose you hold Police officers in high regard generally too?

Is it not one of, if not the ultimate sacrifice in your opinion?

just because you missed the connection doesnt mean it doesnt exist. try reading the whole OP rather than beeling

I am sure no soldier WANTS to die, and reasons for joining are indeed diverse as mentioned by many.

I do hold soldiers in high regard, just not all. and I dont recall saying which ones i do/dont

no generally i think th epolice are ****s

here is a reminder with the main points highlighted for your dumb ass

I heard an ad on the radio this morning, basically it was recruitment for the Infantry.

Now I personally believe that dying for your country is one of, if not the, ultimate sacrifice.

However the current wars this country is currently involved in would be the main reason I would not join if I could any time soon.

knowing what you know, would you join at this moment?

existing soldiers wouldnt have had a choice, orders are orders.
But knowing what you know, would you be a hero or a villain?

Love them or hate them, you must respect the soldiers. They are defending their country and fighting for freedom for foreign countries (even if the people running the war have their own agendas).

    this was once true

but no longer imo. no different to hiring a thug to beat up someone down the road for your own end

I think things like help for heroes makes a mockery of those who lost their lives fighting for true causes

the sad thing is those defending these actions probably hold people like martin luther king etc in high regard

these days he would have been locked up under anti terror legislation, or shot in a tube station

Now you appear to be getting angry.

And you are still refusing to answer a simple question. Why did you say "Now I personally believe that dying for your country is one of, if not the, ultimate sacrifice" if that has nothing to do with the point you were trying and failing to make?

Is this an example of you holding soldiers in high regard generally?

You really are one sad spiteful individual.

They are doing as ordered. The problem is not with the soldiers themselves but the people hiring them/giving the orders/deploying them. The soldiers have no control over that.
