I’ll never vote Conservative again while there are Brexiteers in charge, which leaves me disenfranchised. Being Cornish and therefore non-conformist, I voted Liberal for a while but their descendants are as left wing as Labour now. Baker’s one of the original Brexit Bastards from back in John Major’s day. I met Major very briefly while he was PM - lovely chap actually and certainly not as dim as he was portrayed. Deserved better than Baker who I wouldn’t put out if he was on fire. You know the phrase I really mean.
Brexit v Remainers is history.... it needs to move on and look to the future......the main problem with going forward is situations such as Whitehall "manderins" who do all they can to stop us moving towards the future.....and the biggest millstone of all the EU who do everything possible to stop us....50 years of entanglement in the EU will take longer than a few years to break free from.
It isn't history for me. I would return to the EU in a heart beat. If the EU exit isn't working then don't shoot the minions. If it was such a good deal then why haven't those who lied it through done the deed properly? We have proved Boris is a complete liar and he lied his way through that subject as well. This Government not the Manderins signed up for what we have now which is a potential Civil war back in NI and a botched deal. "He got Brexit done" is the cry isn't it. In my book when the man and his cronies take a bow for that then they admit they are to blame for anything that hasn't worked. It is not the job of the EU to assist in it's own break up and help us out. We opted, or rather people like you opted, to stand outside their club and if it isn't working how you would like then tough you did it.
It’s not history for me any more than the 1975 referendum was over for the Lying Leavers. We’re European and we need Europe economically. The Conservatives may temporarily have gained some Northern voters who think racial purity is the be all and end all but that’ll wane, Meanwhile, life long one nation Tories like me in the South won’t vote for Brexiteers.
The only three papers shedding a tear for Johnson are: yes you guessed it: the Mail, the Express and, most disgracefully of all, the once respected Telegraph. For some reason best known to themselves, all three thank him for Brexit. I daresay the remaining Barclay brother and Viscount Rothermere have done very nicely out of it via their extensive offshore holdings. Me, I'm just intensely grateful to the Chinese for Covid.
Rishi Sunak dripping wealth... will certainly have an understanding on living on the edge of poverty.....if he gets the job.....the useless Starmer might become PM by default.
So Steve Baker has dropped out of the PM race....and is backing Suella Braverman.....not sure about that. Tom Tugendhat wife is french and he originally voted against brexit....but he sees no value in trying to reverse the result......he will make brexit work for the UK....sounds a sensible approach... at least one person who can see a benefit now in what has been done by Boris... by becoming self dependent and not governed by EU red tape.
Those words do not mean he is in favour of Brexit it says he sees no point in trying to undo it now. World of difference in interpretation. You also have no idea how good or bad Starmer is. Your judgement fell apart with Boris so not sure you are a good indicator between the two. By the way, how much better off are you now we are so self sufficient on our own? I'm worse off along with a shed load of others so my guess is you aren't. Good old Brexit then....
Covid and all the effects of the Ukranian war that we are going through.....oil, gas etc....are not down to brexit and you know it.....so give it a rest for awhile.
And you use any excuse to defend the indefencible. Fruit and Veg still in the fields. Not down to Covid. Lack of HGV drivers not down to Covid. Lack of people in the NHS not down to Covid. Inflation not down to Covid. Or the war in Ukraine and you also know it. You were warned all of this would happen but chose to ignore it to keep johnny foreigner out which also hasn't worked. To export stuff to the EU which used to be a drive across the channel now takes a thousand forms it didn't before. Welcome to the world you were promised of no red tape. I will repeat the original question. How much better off are you now we are self sufficient?
No country in europe is better off at the moment because of Covid and the war in Ukraine....but don't let that stop your ranting.....membership ot the EU is over and you need to start believing it or your prejudice will eat you up.
Not a rant at all just pointing out facts. I also already know we are out of the EU and probably not going back anytime soon and accept that is the current fact also which isn't eating me up as you put it. However, I will continue to remind you how crap things are and why thanks to the vote people like you cast. Which Country is the worst performer currently and forecast to be the worst in the future? Nothing to do with Brexit though is it. It's Brexiteers who are to blame of which you are one and it certainly isn't my fault. You keep bringing the subject of Brexit up and I think you are a bit embarrassed by your vote secretly and is why you continually try to justify yourself. I might sugest you get over it.
You keep belly aching about brexit not me....get real and stop blaming everything on brexit.....we are trying to help Ukraine as much as we can....the EU depend on Russia for their oil and gas.....typical EU cock up there.
If Russia has the majority of the gas then who else were they going to get it from? It isn't a cock up it was just a geographical fact of where it lay. I suppose you are going to tell me now that you knew old Putin was going to invade somebody. I am blaming things on that which is causing most of the problems which is Brexit not covid or the war in eastern europe. The price has gone up dramatically in the shops because it costs much more to get the stuff there than it did. Reason is simple it;s because the people who got it out of the fields and to those shops went home when we left Europe because they were not made welcome nor allowed to stay. You can't get a taxi these days or anyone to clean in Hospitals. Care workers are non existant and the cost of it has rocketed because the homes have to pay twice as much just to get anyone. HGV drivers at a premium and costing squids more to employ. You know all of that is true and you also know it had nothing to do with covid or a war. Just because the Daily Mail and Boris told you we would be better off did not make it true.
A small clue....the Crimean Peninsula 2014. Ukraine is known as the gateway to Europe.....and Putin has been planning to pull it back into the Russian Federation ever since he came to power.....he couldn't believe his luck how easy it was reclaiming Crimea. The thought of Ukraine wanting to join the EU and NATO bringing "the west" right up to his door step was always going to get a reaction....and the threat of nuclear weapons has stopped the west doing the right thing.... and letting the Ukraine defend itself without full support from EU and western allies. Yes Putin was going to invade someone and Ukraine was the obvious target with its huge land mass as a buffer between it and the west.......he has always looked towards Finland as being another target....it has a massive border with Russia. Putin is definately a threat to world peace....and at least Boris got that right....the EU should have not put their eggs into one basket and get their energy supplies from one source......France and Germany will not threaten Russia because of their dependence on gas and oil.....being out of the EU will eventually bring benefits once Covid and hopefully the security of the Ukraine happens.....and that might depend on the USA's next President being strong....and I dont mean Donald Trump returning.
I didn't see anything from you stating Putin was going to invade anyone. Easy to be wise after the event like the rest of us. The rest of the stuff you have quoted above you have read in somebody elses story. It isn't your take at all. But, you didn't answer the question. Where were the EU Countries going to get their supplies from? Until the invasion Russia was just another part of the World trade set up like other countries were. Boris got nothing right ever and was maybe gratgeful Putin did his deed to detract from his own deficiencies. As for the rest of my points well, you just ignore them because you know it is true and it is Brexit that has fecked it up. Being out of the EU will not bring benefits and you have no argument to support your statement. I can see the lack of manpower or workers pushing prices up. If johnny foreigner doesn't come back and do the work then pray tell me who will and how the situation will improve.
Of course I've read some of that elsewhere...where do you think facts come from....just plucked out the sky. I have been reading a book called....'The Gates of Europe' by Serhii Plokhy...which is a short history of Ukraine....about a blood-soaked land that has so often been the battlefield and breadbasket of Europe......essential reading for anyone who wants to understand Russia and Ukraine today. So Putin would try to reverse Ukraine's escape from his clutches was always going to happen. Post-Brexit chat is a pointless exercise with hard remoaners like you....so why should I bother you've always got an answer that suites your views. There are other places to buy oil and gas from....obviously not so convenient I admit....but national security should always come first....but the EU is just a jumble of states.....some leaning towards Putins Russia anyway (how did they get in ?).....phew glad we did the right thing and got out before Putin pressed the war button.
Brexit makes exporting harder. That means foreign customers have less need to buy pounds to pay for British goods. A devalued pound makes imports more expensive in sterling. That means we have to sell more pounds for foreign currency to pay for imports thus reducing the value of the pound. Foreign investors thinking of building businesses in Europe realise that basing themselves in the UK would mean exposing themselves to all the above, plus labour shortages and potentially an immigration system that stops them moving their own people in. So they invest in the EU instead. Reduced capital inflows further weaken the pound because nobody needs sterling to build factories and offices and recruit a workforce in the UK. A lower pound means foreigners have to fork out more of their own currency to buy products the costs of which are paid in sterling…. And so the Brexit Whirlpool drags us further down. Forget all the nebulous freedom rubbish. Brexit is a self inflicted disaster and I will grind on about it until those with fingers in their ears going “lah lah lah” finally have to see it. How much damage will be done by then God only knows.
"glad we got out before Putin pressed the war button" ???????????? Erm.....we are a big part of NATO. That would be the NATO that is the European Army. Whether we are in or out of the EU will not change anything if war indeed happened. I'm with you notdistant and will also bang on about the folly of Brexit and will blame all and anyone who cocked up my situation for a racial reason mainly. That includes a couple of people in my own family (not immediate I might add). Reading somebody else's thoughts and ideas on a subject does not make something a fact necessarily. As for always having an answer to suit my views, well, who's views are you expressing to suit your stance? I would hope your own but I suspect it's from a right wing rag somewhere.
