Might seem a little sexist, but honesty its not. It's more an observation. I watched some of the England v Norway game last night, two teams who allegedly are among the top nations in the world, yet it looked so amateurish. I hear that the women's game demand equal pay, more TV exposure, lucrative sponsorship deals ..etc etc Which leads me to this question. At what level is the highest form of the women's game in relation to the mens game. I know its difficult to compare but where do you put the very best of the women's game in relation to English football pyramid system of which there are over 20 levels, I think they would find it tough even on the lowest level. Take the physicality out of the equation (football has been reduced to a non contact sport anyway) it just looks and feels a substandard product that is being pushed by all the media in order to pander to the politically correct....I'm not buying any of it, watched for about 20 minutes, Won't be doing that again.
Read a report on the BBC stating that an English ladies striker is 'only 2 goals away from Wayne Rooneys record'. Haway man!
I've no problem with womens football. The top end has improved massively in the past 20 years. Before then a typical match was embarrassing. My frustration is when it attempts to gain equal billing to the men's game. 'Blimey! Man City have beaten Leicester 9-0! Oh, womens football.'
Last night's thrashing of Norway by England was the first women's game I have watched nearly all of it. Quite enjoyed it...
Said it before but a random group of lads I used to play footy with who used to play 7 a side against each other every week with interchanging keepers hammered a semi pro womens team. Around 13-0 I think it was. I reckon u18 will be about right and I still think they’d lose!!
This whole how would they do against men is a bit daft in my opinion. Why do you care? How many games would the womens wimbledon champ take off the mens champ? Either enjoy watching or dont and watch something else? Last night I thought England werr technically and tactically very good. Beth Mead was great to watch. As to not being allowed to post about the womens euros on here. It is all in the non sunderlamd games thread. I started a euro championship thread last week because thought it worthwhile but all now in the other games thread.
Its a different kettle of fish to the mens game, put aside your prejudice and you can appreciate it for what it is.
My point of this was how can woman's football be even considered as an equal to even non league football. They are demanding equal pay, huge sponsorships and equal air time on TV. For me, its no where near a product that can justify any of those. I once watched a game between Goole Town and Garforth Town. Good enough game, very entertaining, but I don't see any demands from either of them for equal pay, and time on the telly. etc..both of these side would hammer any national woman's team. I don't actually have a problem with woman's football, or Cricket or rugby etc. My issue is, is this clamour for equal rights. If the product is right, it will sell itself and not done simply for political correctness
I could almost predict this would come back. I am NOT prejudice against anything. My point is yes....enjoy it for what it is, but for political correctness to have it on prime time TV when let's face it, it's a substandard product that often ends up a cricket score, simply is not fair on other sports who would benefit from such exposure.
Never enjoyed it. Slow and the goalkeepers can not save any high shot. Until they reduce the pitch siza and crossbar height it will always be poor quality. I don't like the fact that MSM are forcing it at people and including goal scoring records with the men's pyramid. Laughable really.
I suspect wages, TV rights, attendances, etc, will all go up rapidly ... ... then the novelty will wear off and it'll all collapse. It reminds of the hysteria around American sports that were pushed until you started to see English kids wearing replica strips. Then they realised it was actually shyte.
I had talksport on on the way home from graft last night, the game had finished, they were asking the player if she was frustrated by not quite beating Rooneys record tonight, and to be fair she side stepped the question.Just said she was happy to be playing.
i think lasses football has come on 'leaps and bounds' in recent years...tried watching it at one point and the passing/shooting side was terrible but recently it looks to be much more technical, quite enjoyed the games i have watched so far but then, until the season kicks off it offers football viewing.
