Yeh I'm pleased with the look of them. I tried 3 reputable places bcos I wouldn't have a clue otherwise and was worried I'm buying without seeing them. This one's called Heritage. Apparently the leaves darken when it matures. Going to be a few years before that happens though lol. Percy Thrower, bloody hell that takes me back. Good old Blue Peter. I know I joked earlier but I do watch the occasional Gardener's World. It's a lot more interesting with Monty Don than what I remember back in the day.
A mate did the finer detail, I did the labour, those coping stones were ****ing heavy. There's 3 oaks and a **** load of soil behind it, so we did a 13" retainer in blocks too. The wall that was there before was just a single coarse of blocks, more cracks in it than our defence.
Down in South Wales a couple of weeks ago at the mother-in-laws. Old girl is now wheelchair bound and the back of the house was looking particularly run down ... 2 years worth of overgrown weeds and hadn't had a lick of paint for over a decade. So it was a busy weekend! Cleared all the weeds had 2 two tons of Cotswold gravel delivered (which I had to bring around from the front by wheelbarrow) painted the exterior, put down weed suppressant membrane and planted an ornamental cherry ... was completely knackering but worth it ...
Sucky those weren't bonsai I planted just so you know. Yeh I had to do the wheelbarrow from front to back as well Fosse... This is me me now please log in to view this image
We looked at a house once. The back 1/4acre was completely filled with grey granite gravel. Yours looks better. Theirs looked like a scene from a quarry. Absolute bizarre choice for substrate.
Is earth meant to have fck off big stones in when you dig down? Is it good cos it helps retain water or sumnt? Getting sick of pulling these fckers out tbph.
Ive resorted to above ground beds because I have places where I only have 1" of hard red clay and then nothing but rock. Fortunately most of it's a fairly soft rock so my earth auger will smash it up if I really need to dig a hole... But bloody pain. All above ground beds where I can get away with it.
To @Spurlock here's my African lily Been in that pot for 2 summers and nothing just leaves. this summer is its 3rd and 1st time it's flowered I had to hold it up with wire cos its too heavy for the stem Im not sure if this is normal but there's another one coming up
Has anyone informed you yet what a "Lady Garden" actually is, or at least was in the sixties and seventies
