My Dylan collection started and stopped with the first album, until Nashville Skyline, a mate of mine had all his albums and was an early Dylanoligist, so I taped most of them to play in the car, then I bought the boxed sets of his early stuff later on , my tastes moved on in the late 60's and 70's, no idea why I bought Nashville Skyline , must have been on a whim. Your Keswick connection is interesting, a group of us spent a weekend there in 65, we holed up in a cafe which played folk and blues all day, with Dylan tracks dominant, we thought we had landed in heaven.

1965 was a bit early for me Clocky, it was 1971-73 a group of us went a few years running, Most of the bars had live music on but one particular year the Gaslight Cafe, on the way to the lake, had a couple of lads from Newcastle in residency and as soon as one of them opened his guitar case with the cover of Highway 61 showing we knew we were in for a treat, they covered just about all of his early stuff.

Happy days young and care free

I don’t want to clog this thread with Dylan posts so this is my last one for a bit, the different genres posted on here are what brings me back to the thread and have broadened my listening.

If you are into Dylan and want a laugh, have a look at this short film. It is part of the Urban Myths series and is about Dylan coming to London to visit Dave Stewart and turning up at the wrong house (that bit is true as far as I can find out).

The actors are excellent and Eddie Marsan, who plays Dylan, is a caricature of him, every line he speaks is taken from interviews and appearances over the years, even the notes he pulls out of his pocket are lines from his songs.

I think that was the place, just of the main street, I have only been to the lakes on that one occasion apart from driving through last year on my way back from Manchester. It was very different in the 60's , the place was jumping and way ahead of its time, we were into that music due to two of the lads knowing Gypsy Dave, who was a close mate and influence on Donavan who was just breaking himself around that time .

I have just looked it up Clocky and it was the Gaslight Cafe not the Lamplighter, it was on Lake Road just through the underpass, in the basement of a hotel. That sounds brilliant about Gypsy Dave and Donovan.

Hope you enjoy it, the Dylan one was good, but the Bowie /bolan one has you wondering if it was based on some truth. Danny Baker tells some good stories about those days on the London scene.

Just watched it Clocky, I enjoyed it but enjoyed the Dylan one more, I suppose I could relate to the dialogue and delivery more. I am going to look for the rest of the series

Its a while since I watched them and I will watch both again time permitting, I believe frommemory these are the only ones in the series that have a strong musical content.
