So when she isn't accusing abortion clinics of murdering newborn babies, Lauren Boebert is tweeting how people should murder Joe Biden Funnily enough, the FBI are having a word with her...
**** me, Grant Schapps has said something sensible. Even more surprisingly it's both consistent with his ideology and contrary to current Tory propaganda. “When people want to transition gender, that is their choice and they’ll always have the support from me. “I think the country is far more interested in things like their cost of living, the bread and butter issues, jobs and the rest of it.” Asked if voters are interested in a so-called “war on woke”, he said: “If people want a PM who’s talking about woke issues at all, it’s just not me, don’t vote for me. “I am interested in the bread and butter issues that your viewers will be thinking about every single day of the week. “I am a libertarian, I’m liberal both economically but also socially. Let’s let live. Let people live their lives. “I just don’t think we need to get caught up in some US-style debate and sort of almost aggressive war on these issues. It’s just not necessary.” That's him out of the running, then.
Tugendhat is so dedicated to Brexit opportunities that he's also French. His father is a retired High Court judge, Sir Michael Tugendhat and his uncle is a baron. Former Tory MP Christopher Tugendhat was appointed to the House of Lords by John Major. Privately educated, born into wealth and a possible intelligence asset. I await his humble upbringing story, swiftly followed by his fellow Tories chucking him under a bus. I expect someone will go too far and end up sounding very antisemitic, then blame Corbyn.
A Man of the People, if ever there was one... Another of those Tories whose first line is always 'I was an Officer in the Army, you know' as if that automatically makes him more patriotic. In reality, just another grubby little Tory who would willingly sell his own grandma if it enhanced his career prospects.
So much so that his Wikipedia entry appears to have been purged of any mention of other jobs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Tugendhat His own website fills in some of the gaps: https://www.tomtugendhat.org/aboutom Journalist in Beirut followed by PR company work and then consultant jobs in the City.
Having known many officers in the Army, I would not be worried about their patriotism, more their competence. On one hand it is refreshing to find MPs that have had a job before parliament, on the other it seems that the main thing that being an officer in the army qualifies you for is being an officer in the army. And then not that much. Having said that I have respect for (ex-officer) Johnny Mercer who was sacked as Defence Minister for supporting the soldiers being prosecuted for actions during the Troubles, though he doesn't seem to be running for leader. Probably fails the "has no principles" test. Incidentally, Dan Jarvis is also a former army officer (para), but perhaps surprisingly he is a Labour MP. He was involved in the Pristina Airport debacle in 1999 when the US commander ordered the British forces to open fire on the Russians that got to the airport first, potentially starting WW3. Fun fact: at the head of the reconnaissance force on the way to the airport was Captain James Blunt (yes that one).
Michael Jackson prevented WWIII: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11753050 I wonder if that or managing Burnley is his highpoint?
I wouldn't necessarily doubt his bravery in the Services, merely the political and personal ideology that drives some of these ex-Officers, turned politicians to pursue policies that are are best divisive and at worst unpatriotic to the point of treason.
180k COVID-related UK deaths. Ironic that the figure is also the number of blue rinse Tory members who will vote in the next PM....
I've seen 197k touted as a more accurate figure That certainly factors in the 15,000 people whose status was suddenly upgraded to "alive" a couple of years ago...
I was being generous for the purposes of the equivalence... In other news, looks like the Tories aren't in too much of a hurry to improve their image...
