It might not be correct, David ornstein write it is "thought" that is the key word from that part. About a £30 Million release clause.
Strange that any buy back was not mentioned at the time. Details of this nature are usually well known and reported on. It will be a shame if we can’t get him to sign an extension, but we signed him so cheaply that even with a year left, if he continues his current form, we’ll likely still make a profit and enough to get a decent up and coming replacement
I think it's clear there's some bigger clubs sniffing around him though. Unsurprisingly. Going to be tough to keep him if a big bid comes in.
Going to have to get used to it as this is our transfer strategy now, hard to say that we have done badly out of that deal if it is triggered then we have effectively been paid to have a quality player for two seasons. Although I know it doesn't feel like it and we cant really afford to lose him on the pitch as things stand. As for Arsenal and Man Utd, that will be £50m minimum ta.
Him and Fraser were about the only good things in the last third of the season and he just hardly ever has a poor game defensively or has no impact going forward. His biggest asset is his football intelligence and you can only coach that to a certain degree and he has it in bucketloads. I'll be more gutted to see him go than I was with Danny Ings and we have to find a way of holding on to him somehow.
Let's face it, if he moves to clubs Arsenal and Man U, he makes it to the world cup. Totally wrong, but that's the England mindset.
Trying to think where he would definitely start at RB. Probably better for what Utd want than Wan-Bissaka but don’t think he’s much better overall. Arsenal would be a good move for him as I don’t even know who their RB is other than Cedric, but don’t know if he’d go there due to the Spurs connection. Spurs probably wouldn’t want him back (unless the buy back is true) Chelsea wouldn’t want him City would want him Liverpool wouldn’t want him So that realistically leaves the Newcastle/Everton types who would pay him significantly more than we would
I don't remember any of the local journos ever mentioning a buy back clause when we bought him? Think I'd take this one with a pinch of salt, but it's not surprising seeing bigger clubs are interested in him.
Which would potentially suggest that the buy back doesn’t exist. 20m for Spence or 30m for KWP with the latter proven in the premier league and able to cover at left back - and proven at doing that too Similarly didn’t they spend 25m on Royal last year. Unless the clause had a time delay on it that would be another inexplicable decision But who knows.
With all the noise about us chasing right backs I have been very suspicious of KWPs plans, would be gutted to loose our best and most consistent player However I wouldn’t blame him for moving to a big six club and I would chose Arsenal over United if my motivation was purely football but if it was financial then United would be my destination Concerning times after the optimism of the first few weeks
Yep, a real dampener if true. Best performer last year, and plays with a maturity that we’d want around the mostly young recruits as yet.
Yep, would be really disappointed to lose KWP this summer. IMO our best player last season, even out of position. He is so valuable to us too with his ability to play both full back positions and he carry’s the ball so well that he is always a threat going forward. With Tino out for the foreseeable and no senior cover at LB either it would be a bit of a nightmare if he wanted out now.
I don’t see any of the big clubs coming for KWP this summer. United if they had any common sense, but they don’t. He’s got three more seasons on his deal so address it next summer if he wants to go, not this one when we’ve got Tino sidelined for the rest of the calendar year. Also, we’re not selling you to Everton so you can go and follow Dele Alli around again FFS.
I’m pretty relaxed about KWP just because I don’t really see a spot for him at other teams. The only team who would want him and pay what you would think would be a hefty fee is Newcastle, and they only just signed Trippier so can’t see there being too much interest this summer
Not sure I can see another CM coming in after Lavia, with Aribo able to play there, too. Plus it's the Mail.
