Such is the exceptional quality of the tipping on the DT this week I am almost scared to participate. There is however one I like tomorrow. MING DYNASTY 7/1 Perth 4:05 Won this race a tad cosily last year off a mark only two pounds lower than this time. Has been kept busy on the flat in the meantime and it looks likely that this has been the target. The last run on the flat has to be ignored a it was a shocking effort but on the AW at Newcastle. I expect a bold show in this. For each way thieves Billy Hill go 7/1 three places in a seven horse race!
In the opener at Stratford (14:01) Appreciate will no doubt be favourite, but will take a chance with Rebel Royal in this extended 2-1/4 mile Class-5 Handicap Hurdle on good ground. Being by sire Getaway has good NH breeding, but whether or not selection has the speed to win this remains to be seen. Champion conditional jockey, Kevin Brogan, rides for the Ben Case yard. 8/1 best price freely-available at time of writing. E/W probably the best option.
Morning all Over at Deauville today Appleby/Buick only have the 1 runner and Skybet are offering money back if 2nd or 3rd up to £10. Seems a long way to go for just the 1 runner but then the same could be said about the Hannon runner. I think MODERN GAMES 2.50 will win again today but money back if 2nd or 3rd.
6 months ago I gave Grivei a right royal write up for his debut but he could only finish 2nd in what looked a pretty modest event (a couple of subsequent winners but nothing special). He is odds-on to make amends in the last at Sligo today (and ought to do so) but for a sporting bet I'll put up Somersby's (debut bumper winner back in 2008) half-brother Magnificent Seven e/w. He is late to the track as a 7YO, which hints at difficulties, and he sports a tongue tie on debut but who can resist the thought of Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson et al defending Mexican peasants against bandits?
I really like Brogan, one of the very best conditionals. Interesting outsider in this race today is BY JOVE 20/1. If it were a flat handicap he would be top weight. First try in handicaps over timber and interesting that two of his qualifying runs were over way too far. Bits and pieces of money for it too.
Small bets Sligo 15,55 Pump Road 14/1 e/w four places bet365, others 11/1 16,30 The Red Menace 20/1 e/w four places
Both of his are win only prices for me if I was going singles but. Together they're enough of an ew price to have a go. Skybet 4 places on both races too
Bravo, Pilgrim, you had the right one, well done! (Mine didn't do too bad to finish third. At the 8/1 early odds money back e/w, so mustn't grumble)
Not the best of days today and to compound it even more I was going to put up and back one in particular. Can remember earlier in the week STICK mentioning the Newland runners coming back after the barn being closed down. Today he had a single runner at Stratford which has won at 12/1. I looked at previous form and all of his wins had soft in it and so I left it alone as I thought it was the wrong ground today. Gutted….
