I just thought a few stats might be of interest. Over the years promotion and relegation positions have been roughly consistent with the average number of points per game over the whole season as follows; Number of games played = same number of points is borderline for relegation One and a half points per game is borderline for the play offs. One and a quarter points per game is the lower part of no manâs land. So the tables below show the desperate prediction for the rest of the season if the ave points per game shown can be maintained for the remainder of the season. The table was constructed prior to Tuesday's match. HTML: The Sad Sanmarinos in Division Two GAMES PLAYED 13 21 29 37 45 POINTS 6 AVE/GAME 1.25 16 26 36 46 AVE/GAME 1.5 18 30 42 54 AVE/GAME 2 22 38 54 70 The Blushing Barcelonas in Division Four GAMES PLAYED 14 22 30 38 46 POINTS 18 AVE/GAME 1.25 28 38 48 58 AVE/GAME 1.5 30 42 54 66 AVE/GAME 2 34 50 66 82 There have been exceptions to the above rule. Someone went down a few years ago on about 55 points. Thanks to CJS for help with the table formatting. The stats show how much improvement on current form will be required to achieve anything this season.
There is a much easier way of calculating where a team will finish; Less than 1 point/game = relegation Less than 1.1 p/g = almost certain relegation Less than 1.2 p/g = slim chance of relegation More than 2.0 p/g = certain automatic promotion More than 1.95 p/g = almost certain automatic promotion More than 1.9 p/g = possible automatic promotion Anything between means you're going nowhere - I've ignored play-offs for this excercise. So for City to achieve 1.2 points per game over this season, we need 1.5 points from every remaining game! 33 games from tomorrow! Optimists will say this is achievable but the pessimists will not. I think it is possible not probable that we will do it. And if we all want City to be absolutely safe with 5 games to go, then we need a massive 1.96 points per game. We'll be lucky as that is automatic promotion form for the next 28 games.
shiny, if you go down, you better be a man, i mean boy of your word you should do it anyway for charity
It will happen and I'm already very excited at the thought of watching Shiny eat **** wearing a Rovers top at the Mem. In fact, I want to become Shiny's agent and sell tickets for his performance. Beats Bon Jovi at Trashton anyday.
i will remain true to my word, if city are relegated i will indeed eat **** wearing a rovers top in the mem BUT am i worried not the slightest AS WE WONT GO DOWN YOU REDZZZZZZZZZ but if the worse were to happen, i would do it for charity CJS, but sadly it wont
