3.00 Newmarket Soapy Stevens. I had to put this one up because of the name - Soapy Stevens was a character played by Wilfred Hyde-White in the wonderful Peter Sellers film “Two Way Stretch”. Star of the show for me though was Lionel Jeffries as the hard-nosed warder Crout (a delicious word play on Kraut).

Could kick myself over Wallace, in a lot of ways, as when I last looked he was 12/1 (thought that quote miles too big) but is now only 3's. Definite contender as has recently landed a couple of 'coups' and is very much the up and coming starlet. Or maybe someone (just as in 2005) will emerge from absolutely nowhere and 'wow' the nation. Seems to me there is a global problem around the caliber of persons wanting to get into politics. We have a couple of shining lights here in Germany but typically, most places you look you have to think “jeez is that the best they can do?” Trump v Biden, Johnson v Corbyn, Macron v Le Pen just a few recent examples. Mind you, at least there is a choice unlike the “Putin or Gulag” choice in Russia
