Good Morning. It's Friday 8th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds cruise to victory over Blackpool Leeds cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Championship outfit Blackpool last night, as a new-look squad started their pre-season campaign in style. The floodgates began to open on ten minutes when Robin Koch tucked away Firpo's cross following Harrison's free kick. Leeds had already had the ball in the back of the net by this stage, but Gelhardt's effort was ruled out for offside. Firpo turned goalscorer for Leeds second. His glancing touch, from Harrison's corner, doubling their advantage on 23 minutes. Goal number three came seven minutes later, following another corner from Harrison (on the right). The Tangerine's only partially cleared their lines, and the ball was hooked back into the danger zone by Archie Gray. Gelhardt picked up the loose ball on the edge of the penalty area, but was unable to get the ball under control. Fortunately, Rodrigo was lurking nearby, and stabbed the ball home from close distance. Matteo Joseph added a fourth late on, following good work by Shackleton. please log in to view this image Could Corberán return to ER Carlos Corberán sensationally quit as Huddersfield Town's Head Coach yesterday after two years in charge at the John Smith's Stadium after an argument with the Terriers hierarchy about the direction of the club. News of his departure, caused a frenzy of speculation on social media that the 39yo may return to Elland Road. Victor Orta first bought Corberán to Leeds in 2017 to manage the U23's but was soon promoted as Marcelo Bielsa's assistant when the Argentine arrived at LS11. In 2020, Corberán expressed his desire to fly the coup, and Leeds gave him their blessing. Leeds current Assistant Manager Franz Schiemer has accepted a new post with the Austrian National team, and although he will continue to work with Leeds in a consultant role, Jesse Marsch will need a new number two. Geographically, the move makes sense too. Corberán lives locally, and it wouldn't upset his family life. please log in to view this image A new dawn at Elland Road The players looked sharp, well-organised, and passed the ball well last night. There were absolutely no signs of fatigue that was so evident to see this time last year, and their anaerobic energy was high. The squad have obviously been working hard on their set-pieces since Marsch's arrival in March, and it's beginning to show. I know it's too early to get carried away, and yes, we were playing against a Championship outfit, but the manner in which they took their opposition apart should give Leeds fans the confidence that things are on the up. It was also great to see Firpo, Gray, Drameh, McGurk and Greenwood have such an influence on proceedings last night. Leeds clearly lacked strength in depth last season, and it almost cost them their top flight status. Early days, but all the signs are good! please log in to view this image
Good Morning to Matt Doc WJ Ristac Shako etcfrom a sunny warm Bardsey So whats the situation re Rap and Charles DL I can.t help thinking that the signing of Tyler Adams was totally inflated we were informed it would be around 11M now we are told its 20mican only think that we have paid almost double so that the dispute with the club has now been amicably resolvedand will now be scrapped Any other signings Docthelad from Swanseamaybe not wanted after Fripos display last nightand what are the chances of Charles coming to Leeds now
Morning all. At what point will the Firpo bashing stop as it’s getting absolutely ridiculous on here ?
Morning everyone from sunny central wakefield. Corberan would be an interesting choice and i would give him a go. I did not see the game at york so cannot comment as have no idea of blackpools standard. I did watch england women though and some of the play was laughable. It's football Jim but not as we know it.
Former Fifa president Sepp Blatter and vice-president Michel Platini have both been found not guilty following their fraud trial. The pair stood trial over a payment of 2m Swiss francs (£1.6m) made by Blatter to Platini in 2011. Both men had denied wrongdoing and said the transfer was belated payment for Platini's advisory work for Fifa.
Morning all CDK could still happen and Milan will get nowhere near the Leeds bid. Milan are skint and have behind the scenes problems. Im sure his agent knows the issues and all the talk about him refusing to come to Leeds is bull. Either way not worried as confident of a new striker just as good arriving
Morning all. Due to the covid restrictions blab blah blah in hospitals, I finally got to meet my new grandson Archie yesterday. Needless to say, the pre season friendly was low on list of priorities in our house . Normal service to resume shortly
It’s a constant theme on here though Mike. No problem with posters stating they’d prefer an upgrade but just slating the lad day in and day out is ridiculous. That’s not you by the way.
Thank you perhaps we can move on because the lad had a good game apparently .It does take time to settle in for some lets hope so
I expect a 13 million left back to understand the basic principles of defending. He's not good enough. I don't think he ever will be.
my view on firpo was he always looked decent in possession and a liability defensively last season. I've been prepared to cut him some slack because bielsa's man marking is unique in the game and if he struggled adapting to it, or understanding his role that's understandable. Likewise the pace and physicality of the PL compared to other leagues is well known.. some players need time to adapt and some never can. So i'm apprehensive about him from what i've witnessed, as a club we haven't prioritised a replacement and we're splashing cash elsewhere so, they must have some faith in him.
To be fair he cost a tidy sum and didn't put many good shifts in, he hopefully will be a lot better this time round he unfortunately still looks to be caught sideways on to his opponent.....him and Rodrigo certainly haven't shown us there best on a consistent basis maybe lasso will find a solution, criticism is in the eye of the beholder and it's always going to be divisive depending on people's reaction to a game/player.....I think he needs some improvement still hopefully he knows himself he does
Re last night. You'd always rather win than lose and blackpool were pushing for the play offs last season, but pre-season is about fitness and working on formations and playing styles. So, great that we looked quite sharp, but nothing to get carried away with that we looked good just like nothing to get despondant about if we get humped in the next game.
I didn't get to see the game. How did young Archie get on? I saw him last season and he looked a decent prospect.
I'm not a man for being humped as i would rather be a humper than a humpee. We should be looking to win every game as the best of the fixtures is only Veeeella.
didn't see it either but word is he looked very much at home apparently Roca looked a player and not afraid to get stuck in... there was some feeling that the pace/physicality of british football might not suit him. Now pre-season friendly isn't really a benchmark but promising start.
