I am not privy to “their plan”. Clearly if the supporters of the likes of Jeremy Hunt have a plan he will stand in the leadership election. He needs to make it to the final two for his name to go forward to the Conservative membership. In my opinion, if Hunt gets the job the Tories will get wiped out at the next General Election as he will instantly lose all the Red Wall seats and quite a few Brexit voting rural areas.
OTOH he will probably keep Southern England. Brexit will become more of a two edged sword as it's shortcomings become more clear. At present Covid and Ukraine ar being used as a cover. That won't last.
