    They had a vote of no confidence a week or two ago, which he (somehow) won, and according to the by-laws of the party, they can't call another vote of no confidence for a year.

    All irrelevant now as it is being reported he'll be resigning any moment.

    They had a vote a few weeks back… and they backed him. Current rules say they can’t have that vote again for 12 months I think. However as this shows there are other ways of making it happen. It appears he’s writing his resignation now

    From the BBC;

    Chris Mason

    Political editor

    Boris Johnson will resign as Conservative leader today - he will continue as Prime Minister until the autumn.

    A Conservative leadership race will take place this summer and a new Prime Minister will be in place in time for the Tory party conference in October.

    By far the least competent and most corrupt.

    But Blair or something.

    Not gone yet. Hanging around until ‘the autumn’, in that way that politics is run by seasons rather than dates, with no ministers, ie no government. How the **** is that meant to work?

    I can think of worse candidates. I don't agree with him on lots of things, most obviously Brexit, but he's principled, consistent and honest.

    **** that. Is he vaguely competent? In his own debased terms Jacob Rees Mogg has integrity and principles. Doesn’t make him worth pissing on even for fun.

    Tory Armageddon, much like the extended suicide attempt/cry for help of Corbyn/Starmer Labour. If the Liberal Democrats keep their heads down and won’t do anything too jam and sandals they might benefit big time.

    They will appoint a temporary PM, one who promises not to stand for the leadership I suppose? I know, Theresa May!

    We don't need a 'Brexit hard-man', we need someone who would be less confrontational towards Europe. Aside from Johnson himself, the biggest problem with Johnson's government was that he purged it of anyone who wouldn't swear blind allegiance to his hard Brexit and filled it with people of very limited ability.

    My point with Baker was not that he's good, more than the bar has been set very low and anyone will seem like an improvement. Can't see the Tory Party letting Boris stay on until autumn. They are rightly ruthless when they need to be.
