According to nufcfans on Twitter...

"I'm ambitious and want to play in Champions League. I want to win things. I'm OK at Newcastle but I aspire to more."

Can't blame the lad, let's hope FCB & Co can satisfy his ambitions or else I think we'll see him go in the summer.

Mike, get your check book out and buy this Arnold we've been hearing so much about. I'm sure we can prize him away from chelsea for around 5 mil plus extras (1st international cap etc)

I'd be pissed off if he went. It can't possibly feel like you've worked for the reward of winning a title or medal. You've just been bought and slotted into an already winning team.

I'd MUCH rather stay with a lower level team and help it up to a winning status. It would feel significantly more rewarding.

Totally agree, I've always wondered how players claim to be ambitious by wanting to play for a club that's already winning things.

Plenty of players have come and gone while playing for Manure and Arsenal etc and picked up a few trophies in the process but to do it with a club like Newcastle or Sunderland etc would truly be a great achievement.

Aye but the issue with that is, neither of us has won out in donkeys...I think most, if not all players would prefer to be an integral member of a lesser team who wins one or two hard earned trophies than a lesser member of a massively successful squad who win a lot...

As for the quotes being fabricated, I'd call bullshit if it mentioned the words 'source' or 'close to the player' but if it's a 'direct quote' then the paper - in this case the Mail, are leaving themselves open for libel/slander cases against them, something I'm convinced they wouldn't do!

Worrying times!

He ain't going anywhere this summer! The guy spent 2 hard years building a life in Newcastle, he really wasn't settled for a long time but now is reaping the rewards for his grit and has developed wonderfully, I'm just not so sure him and his wife would like to make a move at this point just when things are going so well, why take the risk he might end up a bench player or have difficulty settling again when he's got a pretty good thing going in the Toon. I'm certain he'll give us at least another year or 2 to kick on from this season, because he can't say we're not matching his ambitions yet, we've bounced back superbly this season and deserve all of our players to stick with us and see where we go from here.
If he's looking for reasons, 6-0 villa, 5-1 scum, 1-0 + 4-4 arsenal, 1-1 chelsea, 3-1 Liverpool.... He can't say this is a club going nowhere based on those results so far.

Two things.

1) It's the Mail, arent they banned from our ground for making stuff up?

2) Why would Jose make such a strong statement as to say he wants to stay here for his whole career then jump at the thought of Aston Villa (who are one of the teams he is quoted as being flattered by").

If this is true, I cant stand when they lie, if he had just said from the start, "I like it here but I do want to play Champions League in my career, and may eventually have to leave if the opportunity arises" then we'd know at least.

Well, if they are making it up then they're getting themselves into the **** of it as they are supposedly direct quotes.

Yes but its easy to take things out of context, he could be saying he is happy at Newcastle now, but we need to get into Europe in a season or two to match his ambitions.
