(( Tell me something new. ))
My older son went to Folkestone yesterday (( and quickly wished he hadn't. )) He stated that the performance by Gills was poor...He spoke to Home fans - who told him that their side was playing badly - by their standards.
Son said that Ehmer was useless (( tell me something new. )) He wasn't overly impressed with O' Keefe - who was lucky not to get sent off (( tell me something new. ))
Son said that Gills opening goal was almost cocked up in the build-up ..... and that the penalty for the second goal was a blatant dive.... and there was very little created going forward (( tell me something new. ))

Son's honest opinion - Gills, on this performance, will struggle, and likely to be in another relegation battle. (( tell me something new. ))

I tried to be positive for my son ( after calling him an idiot for going to the game. ) - I said that Harris will have seen the rubbish on offer - and will have his mind made up regarding the ((lack of )) quality of those on the pitch - and can get rid of them quickly - and concentrate his search for suitable players / loans that might keep Gills out of the National League for 2023/24.......that will be something 'new' for me (( or not as will be the case - I have no intention of doing a 100 mile journey for home games in non-league. ))

Oh dear, I'd browsed twitter yesterday, 'very' briefly to look to see how we got on and had read nothing detriment, but now reading this it gives some cause for concern. Let's just hope we are trying out different things, rather than any momentum to get a result, otherwise we might be looking at a few Kent derbies the following season - which is the only silver lining I can currently hope to draw from it all.

Are we getting ready for National League ?

At Dover, Gills had a defender, Alexander, released by Wimbledon - really !!

I hope that this isn't what we've arrived at ! ... Last season, when Gills re-signed Ehmer, I had my head in my hands - in despair (( and that was before Ehmer had even hoofkicked a ball )).... I could see relegation for the Club --- and, come the Rotherham game, I wished so desperately that I wasn't going to be alwaysright.

.... So, now, we get another reject from a relegated club - wow.....

... Message to Scally - If this is the best you can give for Neil Harris, I respectfully plead that you do what Boris has done.

I read on twitter that it seems our new CB (well I think he's a CB) from Ipswich was at fault for one of the goals against Dover. Previous day I had read a lot of postive comments, so let's hope it's a case of just settling in a new team with the friendlies. I suppose we are going to be a little apprehensive after last season. I've got complete faith in Harris it's just whether or not the chairmans pockets are deep enough, hmmm. Maybe football has just become unaffordable these days for clubs like ours and sole owners.

pre season friendly, maybe Harris has a cunning plan to lull all the other teams into thinking the Gills are not on it and then springing a major shock & having a well oiled team ?
    or...
you are going to have a awful season & that Dover result will be the pinnacle :)

( I didn,t realise that Evans was now with Stevenage , wow !!!)

brb - I shall be at Priestfield on Saturday (( I think I might be suffering from heatstroke. ))

We still need a few more players - definitely another striker........ I also hope that we do not deploy HOOFBALL.

I'm crossing my fingers for Danny Lloyd a bit later in the year - Gills were definitely poorer for losing his services.

I agree about Danny Lloyd, glad we've still got him. I know it costs but hopefully we will reap the benefits later as a result of putting the player ahead of the wage bill.

    Well - we weren't too poor !
Not sure of the standard of Portsmouth players - looked nothing 'special.'
The winning goal came in the dying seconds - Gills paid for giving too much time on the ball - to allow for the cross leading to the goal...... Neither team really deserved to win - but - for me, the result wasn't important.

What I saw was quite pleasing to watch - in terms of a far cry from hoofball that has dominated our tactics for too many recent years... The players (pleasingly), tried to pass and move - on the deck.... OK, it didn't always work - but - at least Gills weren't conceding possession as soon as it was gained.

I was quite pleased with the 'shape' we adopted - especially when not in possession... And there were signs of decent 'positivity' in challenging for possession when we didn't have the ball....

Obviously, there is still much work to do.. It is hoped that we might bring in a bit more quality - because, currently, I would doubt if Gills are any better than the 'average' teams in League 2 --- and probably some way off from being in the top places in the division.

If todays' performance is replicated throughout the season, coming to Priestfield won't be the absolute torture that we endured last season..... and I am thankful that I won't have to put up with the bloody Portsmouth bellringer.
