“Jubilee” blamed on June’s wages being paid late and foreign banks for this month The alarm bells are ringing.
But the Wigan supporters were telling everyone that they're an example of how a club should be run ... ... sorry but you must be mistaken. Or are you "Alarm bells are ringing once again at the DW Stadium with players and staff known to be considering their futures. Chief financial officer Richard Bramwell has also stepped down from the board of directors. The club add that they signed a significant number of players last season and did not expect to be active in the summer window. One to watch." https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...igans-players-paid-late-second-month-row.html
After the disgraceful purchase by a Hong Kong company in 2020, and their subsequent Administration and relegation, I can understand that their supporters might have expected that this time the FA and League would have been extra careful when examining the new owners. They did seem to gather good squad together at the start of last Season, and I'm sure many wondered where the money for this had come from, but there was that re-assurance. IF, this latest take over has also gone sour, then the there should be uproar from every Fan in the Country. The whole point of the Ownership Test was SUPPOSED to make sure that such a thing couldn't happen.
Looking at their forum, most of them are denying it and downplaying it as nothing. In fact they're blaming the Mail (a newspaper I do hate) as having a go at them because of their owner having a go at the Mail because of the World Cup. To me though it should be something to be at least a bit concerned about, at least until things become much clearer. I've always found them a bit of a strange lot, pretty insular with chips on their shoulders. This just confirms it a bit more
Hmm, part of me is inclined to believe that they're telling the truth, with the reasoning for those delays... The other part of me is sitting here thinking, we've read it all before with other clubs.
Always have been & always will be a MICKEY MOUSE club, with a fan base that wouldn’t fill a telephone box. Bart
So many Wigan fans have a chip on their shoulder they were responsible for the Lancashire potato famine ... ... quite a few L1 clubs are like that but they're the worst imo.
Strange bunch aren’t they. I’d laugh my back off if they were having money troubles again after reading their fans talk ****e every day last season on Twitter.
I remember that. Also remember their fans saying something like it’s a “way of keeping the fans involved “ or some other bullshit!!
Would take great pleasure in them going to the wall......again. gave it big licks last year with a house built on shifting sands. ****e nothing rugby town which we'd be better of nuking
You can talk a lot of things away. But late wage payments are a horrific sign in any business, and football is no different. Maybe these odd explanations have some weight, but if it was us I'd be thinking Derby.
Unless Wigan players are paid in cash in an envelope (like in the 50/60's) then I would be worried as well. All banking is done electronically and anything such as the Jubilee is an absolute irrelevance
Agreed. I remember a lot of fans (me included) were brushing off the fact that Donald was selling off the family silver when local journos were telling us all that they didn't have a pot to piss in. Never underestimate the power of denial
The problem is that hope is all we have ... ... we're in the same boat now tbh. And we all hoped Donald was a man of his word, we were wrong.
Three times then. Maybe they will be the exception, but most things point to administration unless they are bought very quickly. Worst sign in any business unless it's a cock up, which though possible, is obviously not the case here.
