I've got a 12 year old nephew who is crazy for guns and war and fighting. Widny be surprised if he goes into the forces, or the polis.

    you not worried like AR?

By the way not taking the piss etc. genuinely want to know peoples views

I know a few people who joined up years ago, but got out first chance before Iraq started.
IMO they want to play soldier, but not be a soldier. if that makes sense

Dont think I could join up now, the ad basically meant 'cannon fodder' wanted for me
and as i say (and i acknowledge its easy to pontificate etc) knowing/feeling how I do about the war in Iraq/afghanistan I couldnt join

we've been through it all before with my cousin, he left 3 or 4 years ago after 13 years, did loads of tours in iraq/afghanistan. he's been chatting to my brother trying to dissuade him but i think its a good idea. its something he will enjoy and he will be good at it.

Because people like you have already made up their minds and have entrenched beliefs based upon naught but what they read in Commando comics.

    Simple really

A reputation given by whom exactly?

People who are long on ignorance and short on experience?

A few years ago I would hve agreed with you re 'grow up' etc
I was always an advocate for national service, and I went to a military school as a kid and loved it and would have sent my kids if they had similar in this country

I have changed my mind about a lot of things and if my kid wanted to join the army currently (too young by the way) I would literally fall out with him over it

My conclusions are based upon your previous posts on this forum Re: the Army and what you are saying right now.

Your conclusions about the Army are based on your imaginary "mate" who was in the Army.

    Game over.

    uh huh?

so nothing to do with you getting your back up and taking any mention of the military personally?

I take it as its game over you are NOT going to respond?

No, by "Game Over" I mean that you know nothing about the Army and how it is run or they type of person that is in it. You have no experience of being a soldier so you are just pissing in the wind again.

Anything you say about the Army has no merit whatsoever because it is idle gossip mixed with a large dose of ignorance.

    Is that clearer?

you have anger issues, that is clear

read the OP and you will see that not everthing is anti army/military

and I personally have never been in the army, went to a military school for 2ish years and loved it,
however my family have a long history in the forces. Most dont envy the guys being recruited/wanting to join at the moment

bottom line they see current government as numpties following interests that are not even ours. I agree

hence the question knowing what we know would current people joining fit the hero or villain category?

I have anger isues? Is that the same as "Beeling"?

Re the OP, what makes you think people in the Army are happy to "Die for their country"?

What are you basing that upon exactly? Please, do explain.
