no i'm suggesting shutting off half the park and only passing it back until you are in trouble isn't the wisest way to pass to each other. there seems to be a point where we absolutely won't engage at all and want the opposition to come out and play, thats fine to do but when that becomes short little pointless passes between two midfielders and then you go put your team mate in trouble when you do get pressed then its not ok. I never said to go gung ho for 90mins. I am only saying get the right body position so you can pick out the better options rather than fall into this negative side and back mentality we get into. The basics is to offer the out ball to your team mate. be that alisson or vvd or whoever. when the cbs get lazy and got run into decent positions or stay back to play facing him what can alisson do? he can hit a cm coming back or wide to full backs or pump it down the park. Often this end sup with whoever that cm is either knocking it straight back again or a rapidly closed down full back as the ball has to go in the air to them. its then accumulative. one guy doesn't move well enough, the second guy doesn't do it and so on. pretty soon the momentum shifts and you start to have to defend like you are the **** team not them. the other aspect of this is sloppy passes behind the man which all adds to the issue. going through the motions.
How often do we back off at 1-0 though. As I said, was only 8 prem games we scored 1 or less, and 4 of them ended up in 1-0 wins. Yes at times we obv took foot off pedal, but I can’t imagine was always deliberate. Especially in busy periods over Xmas, CL games, end of season when fatigue is a problem
here is one. just go to 45 seconds. inter 0-1 game. Matip gets ball off alisson form a goal kick. inter are pushed up. trent is in a **** position. back to play looking at matip but not actually awake or alvie as he is the only option on. matip decides to hack it past trent. its awful and cut out. tnobody bothers getting close to anyone. vvd doesn't come over all all. fbainho doesn't get in there and help. couple quick passes and a brilliant shot. no challenges put in. no real effort to get a good position, just going through motions. cos we've won the tie right? wrong. we then have to up the game to a higher level than needed to see it out. or how about ending up defending our pen area v southampton interesting comment made by you "We had a proper make shift team out, can’t criticise them for dropping back. Saints had nothing to lose in last 10 minutes. Team did well restricting them to nothing" I said: "It doesn't matter what team we play we seem to do the same thing and invite the pressure. It's a consistent theme with the dicking back and forth never attacking and then ending up wondering why the cbs are in our pen area having to play to alisson to hoof it and see the pressure build." at least you are nothing if not consistent! the point being, thats not control, that was digging in by the end. I've no issue with digging in at all. or winning any way you can but when you are vastly superior just doing that little bit more to actually control a game will save even more energy long term.
Have to say i'm really looking forward to seeing him playing for us as he looks a really exciting prospect - oh and a steal at £7.7m inc add ons .
Hes been Brought in to be part of the 1st team squad this season, klopp obviously rates him, I read after the 1st days training back klopp was closely watching all the drills Carvalho was involved in for most of the session. Very exciting prospect and no doubt we will see a lot of him once he's up to speed with our game.
think the 5 subs rule is going to mean he gets quite a bit more time than he might have last season .
Yeh i agree just maybe not early on, but i guess that depends on him really and how quick he can pick up how we press and hunt and defend attack & counter ect Lost of opportunity for the ones on the fringes to impress with this 5 subs rule coming in. We chatted about this on the prem board ages ago and someone suggested that 2 of the 5 subs be homegrown u23 players as a rule. I really liked that idea tbh it promotes youth into the game and keeps financial cheats like city putting 5 messis on.
