If a tiny fraction of thousands of boat people were terrorists the country would be a ball of flames by now.

Perhaps the way to beat the traffickers is to undercut them. If they're charging £10,000, for a dangerous journey with no guarantee of success, let's do it for £8000 providing you meet certain standards.

I'm serious, think about it ...

...i don't have the time to go through the whole scheme at the moment but I've thought about it and it actually makes sense.

Agreed. Might as well make a few quid out of it. It would also provide the opportunity to stop the people coming over disappearing into the ether.

Illegal immigrants work illegally and pay no tax or NI.

We're really short of baggage handlers, crop pickers, hospital porters, etc.

Why not kill two birds with one stone and get people working. We're already keeping them in hotels, etc, so that wouldn't be an added expense and they'd hopefully move on when their language and skills improve.

It wouldn't be popular with people, me included, but this situation is totally out of control. When we used to take the freight channel tunnel we only saw one group of migrants pulled in a lorry. We made around two dozen round trips and the van wasn't checked. Only on the Dieppe to Newhaven voyage did we have any controls.

There must be hundreds come over in lorries every month.

03/07/22 - "To the best of my knowledge the Prime Minister was not aware of specific allegations made against Chris Pincher when appointed in February." - Therese Coffey (Work and Pensions Secretary)
04/07/22 early am - "I have received categorical assurance that the Prime Minister was not aware of any Serious, specific allegations made against the former chief whip". - Will Quince (Children and Families Minister).
04/07/22 am - The PM was "aware of media reports that others had seen over the years and some allegations that were either resolved or did not progress to a formal complaint".

Position 1 - Boris Johnson wasn't aware of the specific allegations.
Position 2 - Boris Johnson wasn't aware of any of the specific allegations that were serious but was aware of some of the allegations.
Position 3 - Boris Johnson wasn't aware of any ongoing Serious and specific allegations but was aware of allegations made in the past.

The story has already been changed 3 times in 24 hours. What next? Boris Johnson was aware of allegations made and warnings given to him by another MP but Johnson is categorically clear that Chris Pincher didn't grope anyone on the day of his appointment.

Of course he was aware. The Tories wheeled out to the press are using semantics to blur the line between truth and lie, Coffey particularly on BBC breakfast. It is pathetic quite frankly, and is like something a 12 yr old would come out with when caught scrumping apples. But then again, that is about the mental age of
    Bonko.

All modern pop songs have the same 50 words jumbled up in different ways.

That's acceptable because it's harmless shyte that doesn't matter.

What does matter is that our government is applying the same tactics with every issue.

'not aware ... to the best of my knowledge ... not informed ... time to move on ... get the job done ... international issue ... etc etc etc'.

    It's fu*k*ing pitiful.

I’ve spent years saying we should recycle old bikes and give them away to reduce the bikes being nicked. It would undermine the market. It’s the same concept.
they’ve advanced from get Brexit done to get the job done. Three words to 4. Progress. Tbh anyone voting for that is as thick as ****.

It's often said that if you repeat something loudly and often it becomes a fact.

Johnson is always saying his Covid strategy what a huge success, world class, etc.

The reality is that our death rate was horrendous, the money wasted staggering and the cases are now on the rise again.

And why, from someone who wants to look to the future and 'get the job done', does he always panic in interviews and revert back to Covid and Brexit ...

... it's because the past looks rosy, at least in his mind, while the present looks bleak and the future bleaker.

So he has finally admitted that he knew about this Pincher bloke all along. I feel another "scandal" will break today so we forget this one and "move on" to the next one. Meanwhile prices are going through the roof and wages are becoming worth less as a result

Most scary thing is the fuel protests.380 a month it costs a Welsh family to get to Bristol and back for work and the dole may be a better option, but when they protest to get the billionaires in the inactive cabinet to actually do something, they push the police to lock them up, fine them and shut down the protest. We must obey. Worrying authoritarianism. But aye, I read on here. It’s worse in Iran.

Unless there are special petrol pumps for low paid workers I'd say they're paying the same price as everyone else. If you're travelling to an out of town factory on an industrial estate your fuel costs must be crippling, especially if you were already living week to week.

What will happen now, as you've suggested, is that people just give up and apply for benefits. The effort of working shifts, on a zero hours contract, while seeing your income effectively drop just isn't worth the bother.

He knew about it, he was told about the issues in person and even his wife questioned Pincher's suitability. The "resolved" allegations were a formal complaint against him where he escaped disciplinary action. So brushing it under the carpet is "resolved".

On top of that, we have Priti Patel wanting to arrest protestors again today. This after recent objections that the Online Safety Bill in it's current guise will allow Nadine Dorries et al to censor and remove things from the internet on the vague premise of "societal harm". It's not unreasonable to think that Priti Patel thinks a right to protest is "societal harm" or that Boris Johnson thinks bad press that is not allowing him to "get on with the job" is "societal harm".

This government is both inept and dangerous.

I've always laughed at 'conspiracy theories' that any government acts against the benefit of the public ...

... but this is becoming just a little sinister.

Sexual assault is now being shrugged off by government ministers ffs.

Another example in a long line, of this Tory government being corrupt to the core.

Watching Raab melt this morning was really something. Given his role, it's simply embarrassing and a disgrace to the victims of assault.

They don't have long left. Be out soon.

Ah but you see, the law (just like taxes) is only for the "little people" or the plebs if you prefer.

The bloke was an absolute shambles and he was only being interviewed by Susanna Reid ffs, imagine him in front of a tribunal.

'Yes Susanna, he was guilty but he wasn't found guilty in a court so that's different.'

I don't remember Jimmy Saville ever being found guilty in court either ...

... Pincher claimed he'd got drunk and made a mistake.

Presumably the excuse he's always used and got away with it.
