Granted, the ref leant toward them with the decisions overall but Wales are their own worst enemies. This could have been a "famous victory" or an "amazing draw in adversity" but in the end it was the usual "SA win in the last five minutes". Even now it's a "gallant defeat" but in no way papers over the Pivac cracks... he should have gone after the Italy debacle.
I cannot understand how a professional rugby player could even contemplate kicking the ball away with 15-30 seconds left in the clock, and the opposition having a 2 man advantage, particularly given the refereeing performance on show …..
Unfortunately all I can say is... Take the ball into two or three contacts and kick it out on full time. Seems obvious, doesn't it?
I hate to say this and I may be way off but to me the scourge of Welsh rugby, despite the coach, is we're missing that top 5% professionalism, be it tactical or giving away stupid penalties, whatever. It just seems to nearly always be there.
I must admit I was screaming at the TV when they kicked the ball away at the end. That would not have happened under Gatland. As you say Dai it just needed controlled play whilst keeping possession
How many games have Wales lost in the last 5 minutes or so of games, especially versus Australia and SA.
The reffing was bad last week ….. The ref should have gone to the TMO rather than listen to his Italian Touch Judge …
