Known in our family as the Gits , Margit, Ramsgit , we had family who had a home that was made from an old Nissen hut on the coast a few miles outside Tankerton , they had been bombed out of their rented property in the blitz and moved to that area , they found a disused hut and a few like minded people did the same and started a community, council didn't bother them until the late 60s when they tried to evict them , the group won the right to stay but not to pass on the property
Bolan also gave Elton John his first appearance on TOTP also on Get It On. He had a number of Punk and New Wave bands on ITV kids show in 77 - This appearance by The Jam being one of the most well known
In the best 'well, he would say that, wouldn't he' traditions.....the new Porcupine Tree album Closure / Continuation is an absolute wowzer! And likely to top this week's UK album chart. Not bad for a supposedly 'prog' band whose last album was 13 years ago!
The last time I saw them was headlining Guilfest, with The Damned and Stranglers as support...and this summer The Damned are supporting them again, 18 years later... ...where the **** does the time go?
I love that all of these bizarre world music acts are on extreme metal labels. It means that I get some Siberian Nordic folk with throat singing in my suggestions.
It still features at Damned gigs today. Thank **** you only get a few bars these days. Back in 82-84, you got the ****ing lot...which is all that flesh and blood can stand I don't mind it as much in his solos shows, which are usually eclectic and very good, with very little Damned material.
Having watched the Danny Boyle interpretation of Steve Jones' book, my youngest is a convert and has been 'punking up' her clothing...including a jacket with '**** the Monarchy' emblazoned across the back. Guess who's a proud daddy?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Amyl and the Sniffers https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0c90wbc/glastonbury-amyl-and-the-sniffers ...the hottest ticket in punk...maybe? Mrs B ****ing hated them. I'm undecided, as yet.
