<peacedove> News coming in is not very encouraging about Steve Gerard
injury.According to reports to hand, he is likely to be out till sometime in December.
Most likely he is going to miss crucial games, two crucial visits to Chelsea and the
game against Manchester City. We all wish him a speedy recovery.

That is really dissapointing if it is true. Hopefully they have just overestimated his time out. Considering Kenny would want to play 5 in midfield for those big games, we would badly miss Gerrard.

"Steven was in my mind for the game today but it just flared up. We are off tomorrow, so we'll have a more accurate idea on Monday or Tuesday when we return to training. We will be more accurate next week than what we can be now."

The above is a direct quote from Kenny. As he will only now be being assessed at Melwood the OP's thoughts are mere speculation

Foredeck, he was seen coming out of hospital with his leg in a full cast, doesnt look like a few days injury to me. Disappointing of he's out till Christmas but does this highlight how we need to now look at CAM alternatives? Suppose we have Henderson. Annoying that comolli said we loaned aquilani because he wouldnt get a game because of Gerrard, looks like he would have had plenty of appearances so far!

I would like to think that Rafa made the mistake of buying Aquilani. He should have gone for Scott Parkar.

In terms of creative capability Parker can't hold a candle to Aquilani.

We don't need the ageing Scott Parker at all, we have lucas and Adam for similar roles.

Drop Suarez in that hole to roam, put Bellamy one side and Downing on the other. Although I am sure hendo will be slotted there.

I think the "can" in the OP's title is meant to be "could" but I feel Gerrard can be out till christmas and it won't affect us to much. TBH Gerrard has a way to go to be back at full capacity and in the games he has played so far liverpool have been arguably less creative I expect we wont see the best of him till after christmas now. I also suspect that he will return to action shortly after the international break as well.

leg in plaster? I thought it was an infection? Could they be sterimalising (!) it locally by wrapping it in tcp soaked badages?

Clearly I'm not a doctor (thankfully)

Is there a doctor in the house?

Im only a GP, not an Orthopaedic surgeon, but quotes in the Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/oct/31/steven-gerrard-liverpool-hospital-plaster) dont fill me with confidence:

'The ankle swelled up just before Saturday's game at West Brom, forcing Gerrard to miss the 2-0 victory. A small cut suffered in training on Friday is believed to have become infected.' If this is all thats wrong its likely to be a cellulitis which will get better rapidly with antibiotics, and he should be back in a week or two if all goes well.

But... 'Kenny Dalglish attempted to be upbeat about Gerrard's predicament. "Steven has got an infection in his ankle," the Liverpool manager said on Saturday...' If KK is right and the infection is IN his ankle, this is a 'septic arthritis' and is a bloody nightmare as it could severely damage his ankle and potentially end his career... The only thing against this is people are normally admitted for emergency surgery (which could explain the cast) and kept in for intravenous antibiotics for a few days... But I guess SG could be getting these at home with his private medical cover...

A quick puss drain plus a few days on antibiotics will see him fit within a few days.

To be fair to Comolli, if he had known that Meireles was going to screw us in the dying seconds of the transfer market, he probably wouldnt have let both Aqualani and Joe Cole go, so we would have had cover...
