I wonder if Conte is planning to use his 5 substitutes in a radically different way than I've heard of. Could he be thinking about bringing on Lucas*, Richarlison and Bergwijn* at 60 minutes (or 70, or 45) in many or most games--maybe along with the WBs? All three should be better against tired legs, and Son and Kane aren't getting any younger. *If they're still here.
I like the idea mate, think Lucas will stay but it seems Bergwijn is definitely offski. Hopefully we sign a creative forward to give us varying options.
If Conte has any nous or "courage of conviction" there are many PL games where Richarlson should be in the starting XI, while Kane or Son can be on the bench. The time has come to see whether the player can deliver when the opportunities come, in the presence of what on paper should be a far more fruitful MF than he had at Everton.
I think he’s definitely going to make use of 5 subs most games, just as I also hope he’ll be rotating the XI quite regularly to keep things fresh thanks to the quality of additions, he also has the option of changing formation mid-game too thanks to the strength of our midfield and attack. We can start with 343 and end it with 352 or vice versa. My guess would be that the subs to come on will mainly involve two forwards, two midfielders and one WB. I doubt we’ll see many CB substitutions unless there’s either an injury or an awful performance. Whilst we all currently love our front three, I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as saying Richarlison is fourth choice and he’ll come on at X amount of minutes, I’d say it’s more a case of we now have four top forwards (with Lucas in reserve, I think Bergwijn is soon to depart) fighting for three spots and fully expect to see many games where Kane/ Son/ Kulu/ Richarlison start from the bench. For the first time in years we have the luxury of not needing to run Kane and Son into the ground and we should take advantage of it. The same applies all over though, we’ve got four top CMs, numbers at WB and CB, no one needs to be run ragged any more. Paratici, by way of Levy, has given Conte some lovely problems and I think he’s going to relish it.
