AGE OF SAIL 33/1 Windsor 7:45
Stunningly bred and unsurprisingly went off at 6/5 for his debut last September. He was very disappointing that day although eased heavily in the final furlong. He suffered the cruelest cut thereafter before being part of a Godolphin dispersal. New connections still paid 60,000 for him so they must see something there. The Joseph Parr hard is in a rich vein of form and this is a really poor race for its type at this venue. The first time tongue tie is also dispensed with and I think the best description of him would be interesting with a capital I. At odds of 33/1 he looks worth a little each way punt to me. 19/1 five places could be the call but if he lives up to his pedigree a place in the frame doesn’t look at all fanciful.

80/1 now so I am probably well wide of the mark but have had to take some more of that.

The market before the race told you that he had ability. In from any number you chose to around 30.0 at the off on Betfair. Traded at single figures I think in the run despite not being given a ride to show his potential.

One to follow for sure and given I took 4 places I am happy enough with the effort.

Wish I had taken 4 places now <doh>

Definitely a case of what might have been there for me this evening. The horse should have been first three and with a stronger ride he surely would have been. The instructions were surely to let him a nice experience and spare him a tough one.
Pretty certain we will see him out again in 3-5 weeks probably over 10 furlongs. What we won’t see is him available at such fancy odds again.
First three would have been marvellous but during the afternoon I actually managed to get 50/1 four places so all in all it wasn’t a bad day. Sorry for you three place guys, very tough luck.

Nice write up, as always, Stick my old love.

I don't know if you've noticed but the interesting thing for me is that next week the dam of Age of Sails (Godolphin also axing her) is set to be sold at Tattersalls. She is in foal to Palace Pier. The link is - https://www.tattersalls.com/cat/july/2022/131.pdf

Good spot that Barney.
Dam of six winners. She may be 16 but in foal to Palace Pier she could make quite a chunk of money.

95,000 gns
The foal she is carrying could make that and at 16 you could still get a few more.

Appears a most reasonable purchase price for new connections. Good luck to them.

For one reason or another most of the horses I've been looking forward to going through the sales ring this week has so far been withdrawn. Have though made notes re some due to be sold today so am looking forward to seeing how the likes of Ludas, Bass Player, Traila, Stowell and Tolstoy fare. Stowell would, in my view, make some leaper but I guess the days of horses like this being sold to go hurdling is in the past...

Just a quick follow up on Stowell if I may. Was purchased for 95,000 gns by Hurworth Bloodstock / Opulence Throughbreds. The latter have both Flat and NH horses in training so there does have to be some hope he could jump a hurdle. Supreme Novices, perhaps??? I note that Opulence Thoughbreds NH trainers include the Good Doctor and Evan Williams.

Must say though that however they proceed 95,000 guineas seems more than reasonable. Especially if you look at some of the prices paid last week!!!
