The EDP link for that one, based on Polish rumours: https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...sfer-rumours-news-przemyslaw-placheta-9098230
I wonder if this ending to Placheta's two years at Norwich conceals a clue to the club's decision to allow Tzolis similarly to leave after just a single year?
I'm curious as to what led us to sign Placheta. If I recall correctly, his pace was a factor but not the only one, this analysis would suggest there is/was some guile to his play too: https://totalfootballanalysis.com/p...019-20-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics For stats fans, he underperformed on xAssists and was close on xGoals, so it's not like his goals and assists were completely unsustainable. Perhaps the level of competition in Poland is weaker compared to the championship/Premier League than the club thought? Either way, he's not stepped up. Given the amount of options we have on the left of midfield, it makes sense to recoup some funds from him if we can.
I believe we originally tried to sign Denis Man, but ended up with Placheta when Man went to Italy. Basically second choice.
Who, interestingly, went for much more money to Parma in Serie B. He has played much more than Placheta, but after starting last season with 2 goals in 3 games, scored just once more all season. Not exactly a "what could have been" moment.
I would like to see players like Placheta, Hernandez and especially Sinani get a chance this season if they win their fight for places during the pre-season. We need that competition for places if we're to succeed.
Nothing in that analysis about defensive contribution! It's entirely geared to his play in the final third, with and without the ball. We've seen twice now that you can get away with that uni-directional thinking in the Championship, but not in the EPL. Both Cantwell and Buendia improved greatly in that respect, but Placheta still looks as if he really doesn't know what he's supposed to be doing when we're out of possession and on the back foot.
From FBref, it's actually his defensive work that stands out statistically! Offensively, he's in the bottom 20% of attacking midfielders in top 5 leagues for basically any kind of offensive contribution stat you can imagine. Defensively, he's top 20% for Pressures, Interceptions, Shots blocked, and Clearances, top 10% for tackles in the defensive third. Most of that probably speaks more to the game state Norwich mostly found themselves in last season, but still, it's the only stats that favour him
Neither 'stats' or 'facts', but watching Placheta during games, I was impressed by his defensive contributions, working hard to cut down space for the opposition. He also had some impact on progressing the ball into the final third, but contributed much less after that. That could be because he's more of a winger than an attacking midfielder and his heat map suggests that. This also seemed to be the case with Rashica when he arrived and he had to change his play to become more of an attacking midfielder. Our play suffered as new players, including Sargent, Gilmour, Kabak and Normann had to adapt their play to suit our tactics and that took time. This is why I think we should develop our own players rather than try to import players who will need time to develop. There was a lot of hopeful thinking in our recruitment of relatively young players without any experience in the English leagues and that showed. The signing of Hayden suggests that the policy has shifted to a more pragmatic focus on experienced players who can hit the ground running. I hope so anyway, and that we blend that with the development of our own young players through this season.
I think that's the nub of it, and probably in Tzolis's case too. Looking at player comparison sites such as Soccerment, their playing profiles are almost identical.
Yeah I’ve never had a problem with Placheta defensively, I think he works really hard on the pitch and is constantly harrying so must be a really hard worker in training. A bit odd to call him out on that. Placheta’s problem is in attack - he has never showed enough ability to cope with the lack of time on the ball in the Premier League, so you either have to be exceptional in terms of control and movement in order to make time, or extremely effective in your decision making so you don’t need time (and ideally both). He still has time and it’s plausible that he might find his way with a season in the Championship. We will see. I’m unconvinced - given he had one season in the Championship already. However, I do think he is one of those purchases which should be, controversially perhaps, listed as a good decision by management though; you have to take risks and while he hasn’t and most likely won’t (albeit still might) come good, I can see why they made the decision and as risk choices go I think it was a fair one. A bit like RvW.
I'd agree with this. Perhaps the £2.5m or so fee paid before a Championship season was a bigger gamble than it feels now, but the move made sense at the time. The squad lacked pace and the only other winger in the side at the time was Onel. Placheta had a very small window at the start of the season to make a case for regular starts, before Cantwell and Buendia sorted themselves out and locked those wide midfield places down for the rest of the season. Placheta, Sorensen, have arguably been victims of the success of that promotion-winning season. There was little opportunity to get them up to speed with the Championship when the team was flying and everyone playing well, and then they had to step up to the Prem. I'd really like to see one or both of them succeed this season.
I agree with Rob and DH that Placheta and Sørensen became victims of our promotion success and I'd include Dowell, Martin and Idah as well. This season offers another chance for these and others to prove themselves in the Championship. Placheta's pace can be a real weapon in this league and it's a chance for him and the others to build confidence in their play.
I don’t mean to drive a few on here into meltdown but According to TNC, Pukki’s agent has said that he wants to be play at the top level next season, which could spark a move for him? We all know how good he is, but maybe now is a good time for him to move on while we can recoup some value for him and entrust Idah or another to score our goals.
