FB pal, for a man who finished bottom of the second tier in the PREDICTION LEAGUE, and considering the constant skill in difficult circumstances by Billy’o....more respect should be the order of the day to this fine man! A firm favourite of mine! :emoticon-0103-cool:

I guess we have to remember that he owed Cardiff City absolutely nothing. The club had no part in his development as footballer and even when he was playing a quarter of a mile away from Ninian Park he went unnoticed. On that basis he owes Southampton far more than us.
A job in LA is a dream for many people from all walks of life and I don't know why Gareth should be any different. It may be about money, it may not but either way he'll be doing what he believes to be right for him and his family.
He's done so much for his country and I will continue to hold him in the highest esteem.

I'm disappointed he has not come to us, if only for the loss of excitement, interest and club income he would have brought.

However the weather and climate in playing in California, Florida and other southern states will be a bit closer to what will be seen in Qatar.

At the end of the day it is all about getting the right environment to prepare for playing in the World Cup. He won't have Championship gorilla defenders trying to kick seven sorts of sh1t out of him.

I dare say he will earn a lot more playing out there than with us but that's another issue.

I hope he does well and stays fit.

    There's still Ramsey to tempt?

I'm certain we're all disappointed but as you correctly point out, he'll probably be a lot safer over there. The "gorilla defenders" in the Championship will largely be English and who does Wales have in its group?
Also agree on the climate training.

The plain fact is that we were wrong to set so much store by him joining the club, and he was wrong for actively encouraging it. Admittedly it would have been difficult for him to brush off the persistent questioning, but the expectation levels became too high through his non commital responses.

Seemed to me he wanted to be the hero on and off the pitch that the media were thrusting upon him without quite knowing how to. He would have earned more brownie points (from me anyway) if he distanced himself from CCFC through that period and made it clear he had other preferable options to pursue. It's as much our fault for wanting to believe it as it is his fault for not defusing it down a more realistic level.

So he's not coming and I can't say I'm sorry. In many ways it could be a good thing in the longer term for the club and I honestly believe Morison is not sorry either. If we do anything next season it would have been put down to Bale if he was here - the media would have a field day. Morison will sink or swim at the club with his vision of the way forward instead of being blind sided by a "super star" who would always be headline news.

Sorry for the essay, but it's time to move forward in the real world of Championship football which is not the natural habitat of galacticos.

Nothing like a good essay to read on a Sunday. Certainly better than reading about what Boris has been up to.
You may have evidence to the contrary, but I'm not sure Gareth encouraged anything. Perhaps that's just me.
Anyway, I think we're ahead of you and we've already moved on.
Interesting times ahead to see how Steve Morison"s acquisitions bed in and how our style develops.
All that and the World Cup to look forward to.

Got to agree with everything you said there Sparkey. We have a new team and we can judge the Bluebirds performances without the distraction of Bale. Morison has set his stall out and I for one can’t wait to see how this season pans out. If we can build a team that finishes in the top half I’d be happy and we can kick on from there.

If only I could get rid of this nagging doubt that the quality of players we have signed will cause an implosion and it could all go t!ts up by Christmas! Ever the pessimist I’m afraid and will be delighted to be proven wrong.

Agree on the disappointment... I for one had actually started to believe it may just happen.

However, he's never been one for the limelight and the pressure that would come with being the local lad, coming home to help rebuild his local club may have been too much for him.
Without wanting to paint a negative picture of our fans, can you imagine the furore that would ensure every time he was out and about?

I actually thought the Championship would have provided better preparation for him in terms of quality of opposition, however I do get that LA has the much better climate etc. and in fairness isn't a bad standard.

One possible downside, let's not forget USA are also in our group... Don't know how many MLS based players are in their squad normally but our Gaz may well still end up with a target on his back!!:emoticon-0106-cryin

Irish - I won't lose any sleep over Bale, but also for some obscure reason I don't see us struggling either.

Nobody knows what the "package" offered to Bale by the club and sanctioned by Tan consisted of, and I doubt we'll ever know the facts.

Apparently he (his advisers) found it acceptable so it couldn't have been peanuts. It might have been based upon a successful campaign which would have triggered some sort of mega payment, but nevertheless his committed wages would have to have been enough to satisfy his parasites - sorry agents.

However, it proves one thing. Despite the noises the club has made about finances, money can be made available for the right acquisition. Give Morison a piece of that action and let's see what he can come up with. A decent striker and someone to make the bullets for him could see us top half at least.
