I've been in the north stand since they moved and never been too much of a nuisance for me anyway. Seen someone hit with a plastic bottle half full of booze no injury just the inconvenience of being covered in booze. I know some sets of fans Coventry for example have thrown coins and there is a flare launched down a couple of times a season but I can't say i've ever seen anyone injured. Not saying folk haven't been mind just personally never seen it.
I was hit by a coin once. Just think sticking them up there ruined the atmosphere. It was always way better when they were in the south stand
100% in bigger games and against clubs with good away followings but it was dreadful against the likes of Wigan and Fulham with 300 away fans and thousands of empty seats.
Still thought the atmosphere was better. Crazy corner was always crazy even when there were minimal away fans. Now it’s just “corner” and having no fans near the away fans to create the back and forth kills it for me
Still loads available in front of my seats so if you don't mind being showered with hot Bovril and cream crackers when I get excited, get your money spent
From what I remember the fans had asked but it was never actioned. It wasn't until we played the Mags at Sid James, Ellis Short asked where the away fans sat in the stadium, Quinn showed him where and apparently shorts answer was "Well why can't we do that"? and the rest is apparently history.
Full agree with this. Its the reason I got my season ticket in the SW. Every home match was hilarious, back and fourth with the away fans. Then they were moved and for some reason the South Stand was instantly the self proclaimed "home end". The original idea was to have the NE corner as the home stand "According to one of the lads that bought a season ticket the year it opened, that's what the PR men told him". The stadium hasn't been the same since the away fans were put on the roof. Having said that, how rancid would it have looked with some of the away efforts in leauge one. But I digress ofcourse.
When we moved from Roker we went into the North Stand, we used to stand at the back of the Fulwell and I'm sure a few people made enquiries with the club and it came back that the north would replace that. The SWC looked great tbh when the aways were in the South. I suppose the flags lads would have to shift somewhere else and move all the latticework and stuff, the captains murel would look a bit odd as well in the concourse of the away end.
