From someone who works on the railways...

Three years ago we accepted a 0% pay rise, two years ago we accepted a 0% pay rise. But this year they came to us with a 0% pay rise plus over 2500 redundancies, changes to terms and conditions. An increase from 28 weeks of nights to 39 weeks of nights. An increase from 32 weekends worked to 39 weekends worked.

Currently for a night shift we get time and a quarter, for a weekend turn we get time and a half. They wish to cut both of these to time and a tenth. So that’s a 15% pay cut on every night shift and a 40% pay cut on every weekend turn. But they want us to work more of them. This is their modernisation they talk about. Not technology, we embrace technology and have seen more and more of it in recent years. They also wish to fire and re-hire the operative grades and bring them back under a new job title but on £9000 a year less. They also want them to use their own vehicles to get to work sites, this when fuel is at its highest. They will also be pooled when currently they are part of the team. The press are painting this to be about pay above all else. It is not. But now we’ve said sod them we are going to demand better. I wish everyone could see past the government controlled media smear

Rumours that anyone supporting the railway workers or turning up to support them will be punished.

I’ll be done with Labour until Starmer is replaced if he does this.

Most people can see past the media bollocks and understand why they are striking.

It's irrelevant sadly. It doesn't matter how much pressure is on him, walking away means his ego will be damaged and he'll never do it. We've created a world so full of these people now that we have "fake news" and "alternative facts". Some people are brought up with such a sense of entitlement that humility, decency and morality are just inconveniences that get in the way of them having what they want.

After listening and watching the news about Bonko's by-election losses.
I reckon for Labour to win the next election, Bonko has to stay as PM, cos he is mostly hated, If Starmer resigns (gets fined) and Labour gets somebody better as leader.

I’m not so sure, if Boris stays on and turns it round he will be ok, people have short memories. You would think the Labour Party would walk it, Starmer is about as good as a corpse.

No I do not think he is a corpse he is clever and boring, but even Blair had some charisma.

Corbyn was toxic for Labour, Bonko is now toxic for the tories.

I think you are missing the point, Starmer is playing the straight bat to the liar as everything turns to **** and the Tories blame everyone else after 12 years in power

The two horse race is what is toxic in British Politics, its a vicious game in which we are all the losers and the winners are transitory.

I like Boris, i think he is trying to do what he believes to be right for the country. but it his do it now think about it later philosophy that is boloxing everything. I am no tory supporter labour or lib dem either. But something has to change for the good of the country, and that will have to be Boris giving way sooner rather than later. Who to replace him, stick all the names in a hat and pick one out, cant see an outstanding candidate, from any party, sadly.

I don’t think Starmer is bright enough to play any bat, he should already be taking it for granted he’s going to walk the next election, personally I wouldn’t even risk a fiver on a man with zero policies and zero leadership. Don’t know where that leaves me voting though.
