One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.'
The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a
'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.'
The cop was happy and left the shop.
The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank
you' card and a dozen doughnuts waiting for him at his door.
Then a Member of Parliament came in for a haircut, and when he went to
pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Member of Parliament
was very happy and left the shop.
The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen
Members of Parliament lined up waiting for a free haircut.
That, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between
the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

This has a dig at Johnson largely but also Starmer. Written by a Conservative journalist, former colleague and supporter, accusing Johnson of being authoritarian far right

My son left the front door unlocked last night. When challenged about this by his mother, he said it wasn't him... somebody brought milk in (ie me). However we do not have milk delivered Thursday night!

I have just texted him saying he is like Bonko... not really a grown-up as he cannot fess up for mistakes.

His reply.. I learnt from the best!

Not quite as good as Bonko there your son. Bonko would have replied "What door" followed by "No rules were broken" and then "I wasn't aware there was a lock on the door". Next up would be " I believe someone may have left the door open but I wasn't there, and we will have to wait for the results of an enquiry" before finally admitting he did in fact leave the door open but it was time to "Move on" as the lad down the street had left the door open far many more times than himself <laugh>

Rumour has it that Boris has already found himself a new ethics advisor . . . . one more attuned to his way of thinking :emoticon-0112-wonde

Can’t believe I’m reading Starmer is telling MPs not to back the railway workers, is there a bigger waste of space than this bloke.

Although there’s a small part of me understands why ie if elected they have to balance a budget and economy and he sees a trap - I generally agree with you. Surely the debate that needs to be on the table here is - yes we need to make sure spend doesn’t get out of control but let’s start looking at taking that spend from the profits and the executive pay. It’s time wealth was redistributed from executives and profiteers into lower paid staff who need it and take everyday risks and work shifts etc.

Are these the same government that refused to allow P & O ferries to leave port manned by agency staff because it was "dangerous"? But are now passing laws to enable agency staff to cross picket lines and drive trains? <laugh>

Unfortunately, our society is becoming a lot more American in its' approach to capitalism in my opinion.

Many people (wrongly) attribute those large salaries solely to the hard work of the individuals. The aspirational character of many working and middle class people is used against them to prop up these individuals and defend their right to earn obscene amounts. The fact is that no matter how much effort they have made themselves to be successful, society and luck are equally if not more important.

Starmer is on a hiding to nothing, it doesn't matter which side of the fence he falls on he will get a battering. Union sponsorship of a political party will always lead to a conflict of interest during industrial action.

I agree BUT he should be pushing harder for a redistribution of savings on spend / wealth. Some people earn way too much. What is it 50% of the worlds wealth belongs to 1%. Stop funding the already wealth royal family, chop 40% off CEOs and executives, tighten up on dividends and we’re getting closer to a resolution but the conversation is over whether people between 25 and 40k get payed in line with inflation. It’s the wrong debate and Starmer should be at the head of it. Too much about reputation not enough about substance. Too much strategy not enough content.
