Yeah, Liverpool dockers used to strike a lot, now they don't have docks because shipping companies found it better and cheaper to go elsewhere to get unloaded on time.

None of the traditional docks exist anymore, not because of militant dockers, but logistics handling huge ships and containers.

For twenty years the miners took coal from the tower colliery in my valley after Maggie and crew said it had come to an end.........the colliery now shut found vast reserves again but could get the financial investment to take it out.........seems they were already onto its next little earner.....green energy rothschild style......for the few not the many

And I'm honest and open enough to say nothing. After all other than what I say for bantz at the moment I wouldn't vote for anyone, but I will say if these strikes continue, then Labour can forget any possibility of me swinging to them. Thus it only leaves that shower of shhite the Lib Dems or the Greens, we are all fooked for choice.

It's interesting the fever pitch once a union wakes up, but reality is millions of low paid jobs have been done away with because of technology over the decades, and quite simply it was allowed to happen. So I refuse to apply special treatment to the RMT.

We missed our chance with corbyn and everyone fell for the media attack on him with false claims and constant attacks on anything they could connect him with that they could spin into a negative.

Boris and Co on the other hand get 2 do what they like riot club attitude and everything is played down and forgot about pretty quickly.

I do think the world is changing and driven by youngsters who don’t appear to have the same values around wealth as we perhaps do.
My company, amongst many others I believe, offer 4 day working weeks and salary sacrifice schemes. Pretty much all that take advantage are under 40.
I think these youngsters support direct action and strikes is a part of that.
Not sure where that may end, let’s hope it’s not WW or great depressions.

Anyway, question for people, slightly astray from the thread topic, but it is in relation to automation, basically technology taking jobs.

Supermarkets for many decades now along with our corner shops, which are just virtually well known supermarkets but smaller now, have paid mums, young people that want to work in minimum wage jobs, and many millions of those jobs support people on the bread line.

I see today Amazon Fresh are going to expand their first store out of London and they will base a new one in Sevenoaks. My understanding if I have it right, is they are cashless and require no checkout operators.

I'll assume if this is successful or it continues to be so, then Amazon may attempt sometime in future, to expand into the bigger (super)market, so how many of you would use one if in a town near you?

My first thoughts are always quality then price then convenience. If something new comes along that ticks the boxes I'm all for it. People have to adapt and workers the same. Transitions like this are inevitable it's a pity that big companies always see them as a way to make money through removing staff and reducing wages instead of truly enhancing the switch to new technology by relocating staff paying better wages with better training and therefore championing the new technology and making it a fantastic step forward for everyone.
