Former Norwich City midfielder Mario Vrancic has left Stoke City to join Croatian top-flight side HNK Rijeka on a season-long loan. The Bosnian only has a year left on his contract, so is unlikely to play for the Potters again.
Greg Broughton is now part of the Blackburn set up, who was involved in our academy when Cantwell came through so maybe that’s the link. It’s so sad to see why is happening with a player that is truly one of our own from the area. Him being disruptive is pure speculation, if we could get him back involved and firing that would be best for the team.
I agree. This should be a fresh start for the whole squad, including Todd and all of the others returning from loan. The EDP view: https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...-news-rumours-todd-cantwell-blackburn-9045866
It will be a bit of a relief if we don't have to play him next season. Imagine Stoke getting a free kick just outside our area. I'd have to look away.
Sounds like Daniel Adshead is on his way out of the club on a permanent deal to Cheltenham. I thought he looked decent in pre-season last year but at 20 he clearly hasnt developed enough to work his way into the first team squad. https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...niel-adshead-cheltenham-town-transfer-9086764
Adshead joined with third tier experience, 3 seasons later and that's still seemingly his level. Wonder how much of a mistake he feels signing for Norwich was.
To be honest, I'm not surprised. I thought he was fairly good for us, and like almost everyone I liked his passion when he played, but I felt he lacked positional sense and he struck me as a player who will have a decent career at a lower-Prem club. If they hadn't been relegated, I think Burnley might have suited him.
Not sure if it's been posted, but Michael Bailey's predicted "squad status" looks a bit like this: Staying: Krul (been assured playing in the Championship won't impact his WC place), Gunn, McGovern, Byram, McCallum, Hanley, Omobamidele, McLean, PLM, Hayden, Dowell, Rowe, Pukki, Idah, Sargent Could leave: Aarons, Giannoulis, Gibson, Zimmerman (but could have left in Jan '22 and there was no interest), Sorensen (probably stays til at least January), Rashica, Placheta, Soto Probably out on loan: McCracken, Barden, Mair, Mumba, Famewo, Tomkinson, Gibbs, Tzolis, Hernandez, Cantwell, Martin, Springett, Hugill, Left: Adshead No idea: Sinani
Hopefully, that's just Bailey pretending he's 'in the know' or else it makes a mockery of Smith's promise to give everybody a chance in pre-season.
Everyone on the "could leave" list has had at least 6 months to make an impression on Smith, with the exception of Soto who is clearly a long way from the first team picture. The article did make it seem like the majority would get a chance to impress in pre-season, but equally that has to be tempered by the fact that we have 37 senior players and an imbalanced squad. If a good loan offer for Josh Martin comes in before pre-season, it might have to be taken up because there's no guarantee a similar offer comes up in 6 weeks time when Smith has decided that Martin definitely isn't someone he wants in the squad for next season. We're going to need a healthy amount of outgoings just to make room for any additions Smith wants to make, and if that means agreeing to sell fringe senior players like Hugill and Hernandez before they've had a chance in pre-season, that might be the reality of the situation. please log in to view this image
https://www.canaries.co.uk/content/...lukas-rupp-to-depart-at-the-end-of-the-season Officially yes, along with all the loanees, Rupp, Drmic, and some younger players. Other than that, all that he's said is that he wants to be competing to win something next season, and he liked seeing what some friends with Eintracht Frankfurt do well so would like something like that. It's not Premier League or bust for him. I feel like his head dropped once he realised what direction the season was heading in, and his performances suffered. Fully motivated he's capable of being the best midfielder in the Championship, especially alongside someone like Hayden. I suspect he'll get an offer from someone else that beats anything NCFC can offer him.
I know we have to cull such a big squad, but I find that 'staying' list very depressing. Where's the creativity, especially if Pukki goes (which personally I'm still expecting to happen)? To me, this list reads like a belief that 'Farkeball', or any attempt to play attractive possession football, was a mistake which would never work at a higher level. Possibly true, but our new pragmatic future under our new pragmatic leader doesn't look very appetising.
It isn't a huge squad and we will need more players in a 46 game season. The Athletic team sheet does make it look more unbalanced than it is as Sargent, Placheta, Rowe and Springett can all play on the right as well and Sinani can play a range of positions. There are 31 players listed and Rowe and Springett, as well as Mumba, Tomkinson and Gibbs are still young enough to also get game time in the U23s, while still training with the first team. That leaves a squad of 26 more senior players with at least one quality CM to come in and Aarons possibly leaving. That's not unmanageable through the pre-season and would allow some flexibility if players pick up serious injuries early on. My fear is that players joining this season won't be PL quality should we be promoted, but we'll have to wait and see.
I'm sure we could find a role for him? https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...mark-fotheringham-hertha-felix-magath-9088984
