Blatter and Platini go on trial for corruption today in Switzerland. Maybe they'll say we should draw a line under it and move on.
Poor Sepp is "too ill to testify", he says, in a whisper, also complaining of chest pains. Doesn't fancy lying under oath.
The Premier League is getting tough on pitch invasions... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61750687 Their first measure? Visiting teams have to bring some of their own stewards That's really going to solve the problem. A couple of dozen minimum wage part timers.
I thought Sandgaard would do something like this, it was a freebie for about 12 games last season after all!
Euro 2022 - Great little football spat between Wrighty and that pompous knob Sugar... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62132156 The former Arsenal and Crystal Palace star addressed Lord Sugar directly in a video on social media, saying: "Alan, the thing is, rather than just saying 'I got it wrong, lots of men are working at all levels of the tournament', you doubled down on some complete foolishness. "In your mind you actually thought after you sent that tweet that the BBC phoned me up, never mind the fact that I've been booked to do this for a year, and said: 'Ian, you've got to get back from Germany ASAP. Alan Sugar's tweeted and we need to get you on. We can't upset him."
He's the original bad penny. Or as Dennis Hopper said of Kevin Costner in Waterworld, "He's like a turd that won't flush".
I travelled down from Glasgow to Euston yesterday, and sitting nearby were the West Ham Youth team, fresh from beating Rangers 4-1. The black players sat nearest to us, and the white players sat with the (white) staff members in another part of the carriage. Although the kids were a credit to the club n the way they conducted themselves, I thought this was a poor show by the management team. They were all ,members of the same team after all.
It's a subject for debate as to whether such choices to segregate rather than integrate are bad ones or not. Presumably (I would hope at least) that when the team plays it is colour-blind. Every player does their best to help all his team-mates. But diversity, almost by definition, does not always mean effortless or desirable integration - akin to blending or homogenisation. Diversity is the watchword, but it does not go hand in hand with complete integration. This is a difficult subject to think about when different ethnic or religious groups have historically not enjoyed equal status in society. But to follow to logical conclusions, generations of complete integration will lead ultimately to a diminishing of diversity. We all would like to be equal, in terms of respect for the rights of others to live the life they choose, and their respect for our right to do the same. But would we all like to ultimately be the same as each other? As long as those West Ham young players respect each other's differences, it's not necessarily a bad thing that they choose not to integrate all the time.
No, but the management sat with the white players, and one of the black players commented on it "The staff are all up there, we're a team and we've got black here and white there", which was what I'd been thinking at the time. They don't have to integrate all the time, but when the only difference is skin colour, not religion, and they're all Londoners, I believe management should take the opportunity to have them act as one team.
Had a call from Christos, our sales executive this morning. He wanted to know how my experience at the club could be improved, and I simply told him that S/T's are too dear, and so is the food, although I realise that is the case at nearly every football club. The local chippies are much better value, don't know why anyone would buy chips at the Valley, unless they see it as a donation to the club.
